On the top of Gaularfjell

Greetings community! I am continuing our travel to western Norway.

After visiting the Borgund church, see my previous post. Link at the end of this post.
We set off for our next destination,
Likholfossen, where we booked our cottage for a night halt.

Although the weather was still, it wasn't clear; mist and fog covered the mountains, and there was very little traffic on the road. Places to place got some showers on windchills, but nature was still enjoyable.

A first small ferry that crossed Sognefjord from Fukeness to Manheller wasn't so full

Because of the rain, I went inside. It was nice and clean, but very quiet there.

Driving out from the ferry, we immediately enter the big tunnel.
I was hoping the rain would stop. we drove several kilometers along the fjord until we reached Kaupanger.

It looked like clearing, but not. Once we got on the road to Dragsvik, we followed the Eidsfjorden and crossed a lovely bridge called Loftesnes. It was enjoyable to drive alongside the fjord,

And we eventually reached our second ferry, which took us from Hella to Dragsvik. From there, we connected to the scenic tourist road.

Nice mountains and fjord water from the ferry make the mind go thoughtless. It took around 30 minutes to cross the fjord.

After the ferry, as we continued driving along the fjord, the road to Vetale Fjord was fairly normal. We arrived at Vetale Fjord, and that’s where the real adventure began—driving up the mountain Gaularfjell.

The journey there turned into quite an adventure as we drove along a scenic tourist route. My husband was behind the wheel, and I sat beside him, and each swing made butterflies flutter in my stomach. I was quiet and didn't feel stable enough to take any photos.
As my husband skillfully navigated the winding road, I felt a mix of fear and worry with each curve until we finally reached the summit.

Then I saw the road we had come up from the bottom. I felt proud of my husband. When I saw the surrounding nature, my fears and worries disappeared in an instant. I was a different person. watching the mountains surrounded by nature, I got lost.

A clever mind chose this location as an ideal viewpoint. From here, we can see the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, the winding road, and the valley below.

The platform juts out from the edge of the mountain, allowing for a panoramic view of the area. Standing on the edge again, I felt butterflies flutter in my stomach, but this time it wasn't fear or worries, just excitement. I enjoyed walking and climbing the platform like a child.

Gaularfjellet is a well-kept secret for many people. The drive begins alongside the fjord before the road winds up to the mountain's highest point.
Norwegians have a deep appreciation for nature and adventure; they know how to protect and enhance the beauty of their surroundings. The viewpoint, known as "Utsikten," translates to "the view" and serves as a resting place for travelers. Located at the top of the climb from Vetlefjorden, it offers a stunning vista of a lush, beautiful landscape where Highway 13 winds its way up the hillside. This viewing area is situated 700 meters above sea level, at the edge of the mountain, providing an impressive panoramic view of lush valleys, deep fjords, and majestic mountain peaks rising up to 1500 meters. Visitors experience a profound sense of connection with the nature surrounding them.

We used sufficient time to enjoy that point and started back on the road.
The road follows the Gaularvassdraget, one of the few protected waterways in the area, showcasing everything from wild rapids and waterfalls to serene spots where the water flows gently.
Our cottage is booked not far from the Likholwaterfall, where we should rest at night and nest day for a new destination. After Gaularfjell, it was many kilometers to drive, and when we reached our resting center, it was almost 8 pm. My husband was very tired driving the car all the way, so we just took over on our hytta/cottage.

I took this photo of a waterfall from the road before getting into our cottage. we were tired and hungry, wanted to refresh and eat dinner, which we should prepare in the camping cottage.
In the next post, I will write my experience at this beautiful place. Now, thank you for today.
