Barkevik ,and surrounding forest, rocks, sea, inlet, berries, fjord.

Most of our hikes are in our local area of Vestfold. My husband enjoys exploring the diverse nature along the coast, so I try to join him whenever I can. Each time, we discover new places with many exciting options. The changing seasons and weather conditions offer completely different experiences, allowing us to connect with nature more deeply.

Today's trip to Barkevik and the surrounding area included everything: the sea, rocks, small beaches, boats, an inlet, forest, and a swimming spot at Torpe Lake. And returning home with a plenty of wild berries.

Barkevik is located by the Langesundsfjord, about 2 km north of Helgeroa in Larvik Municipality, Vestfold. It was once an industrial site where a blast furnace and forge were established around 1740 as part of the Fritzøe Ironworks in Larvik. Historically, up to 300 men were employed in the iron foundry, mill, sawmill, and ice-block production by the turn of the beginning of last century. All industrial activities ceased before World War II, but remnants of this history can still be seen. Barkevik is also the namesake of the mineral Barkevikite. Now it is popular for summer tourists, locals, as well as visitors. And plenty of summer cabins are built around the area.

A nature walk towards to Torpe lake begins just a few meters from the parking area. It takes a right turn into the forest and a left turn towards the inlet and coastline. The forest is covered with pine, aspen, oak, birch, and many different species, making it calm and shady, creating a natural atmosphere. This is a good hiking place suitable for spring, summer, and autumn. This section of forest features a wide variety of moss on the rocks and bushes of different kinds of wild berries. Walking between rocks that are covered with soft and silky moss and have a woody smell makes the walk pleasant.

The path to Torpevann goes through dense but rocky forests, with bare rocky outcrops shaped by natural erosion, often leading to a shallow, narrow entrance between steep rocks.

The ground is covered with hard rocks and soft mossy layers. There are countless opportunities to discover nature if you keep your eyes and ears open, making this terrain a favorite among nature lovers.

The path connects to the end of Torpe Lake. Big rocks and the lake water create a beautiful landscape around.

Somebody made a small zipline over the water for fun swimming. So anybody capable person can enjoy the adventure.

After enjoying some time in nature, we attempted to find a path that would lead us around, but we couldn't, so we returned the way we came. In another direction, the path looked more beautiful. On the way back, I picked the Berries that we saw earlier.
Instead of going directly to the car, we took a small loop to the tiny beach on the fjord, which we had visited often. As I’ve mentioned before, the scenery is always beautiful in its own unique way with each visit.

Barkevik is a popular destination for boat tourists, easily accessible from Langesundsfjord. Many visitors stop here to explore the natural beauty and cultural offerings around Helgeroa. Local residents often dock their boats in the narrow inlet, and some have houses on the hill overlooking the water. In the summer, locals come to swim and sunbathe with their small children.

Walking along the water on a lush green path, A big rock like a wall. I am seeing it for many years in a cracked situation; it was cracked but had not fallen apart. This time, I noticed it was wrapped in a special metal chain to protect it from falling apart. this a way Norwegian Protect nature and its details.

The Barkevik Vel is the organization that takes care of their heritage and nature and keeps the area nice.
