A short walk at Fokserød Forest

Hello, friends! Greetings! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying time with your loved ones. Today is Wednesday, and we’d like to share our walking experiences in the community #wednesdaywalk, which was initiated by @tattoodjay.

We had a lovely walk during our trip to Torp Airport area, where some bureaucratic work had to be done. My husband had an appointment for that, so we were there around 9 AM. The process went quickly, and we found ourselves with plenty of time afterwards.

I wanted to buy some flowering plants on the way back home at the supermarket that is the nearest and biggest one close to our place. it is situated in a bustling commercial area filled with various businesses. One great feature of the location is the free parking available for those who want to go for a walk in the adjacent forest. The supermarket is conveniently located close to the airport and central bus connections, surrounded by several neighborhoods and large towns.

This forest is bordered by roads. We have driven past it numerous times on our way to the airport or when visiting special offices. The road from our area, which connects to the E18 highway, leads through this forest toward the airport. I have observed this forest superficially in different seasons, but only from the road while in the car or waiting for the bus to Oslo. This is the first time I explored it on foot, appreciating the lush greenery of spring.

After a bit of shopping, we decided to take a walk around Fokserød Skogen, a forest named after the local area Fokserød. It is a beech forest similar to Bøkeskogen and is designated as a nature reserve.

The community is very clever to make the trail easy while walking in this big forest, we can manage ourselves easily, which direction to go.
.

Actually, the original forest after the last ice age stretched from the northern town of Horten to the southern point of Mølen. Only sections of it remain, and one of them is a nature reserve established in 1980.

Beech trees are native Norwegian trees known for their dense canopies and lovely green spring foliage. Only a few other species of plants can thrive in the sparse light that reaches the forest floor. white anemone and marsh marigold bloom before the leaves bud in spring. However, that has passed, and now the trees are adorned with vibrant green leaves, creating a beautiful, fresh, and energizing atmosphere.

This forest is the first place in Norway where the nuthatch bird was discovered nesting. Also, fieldfare, blackbird, robin, and nightingale are found in this forest. We saw them flying, but because of the dense branches, and without binoculars, we couldn't manage to watch them. I noticed a few other birds at the edge of the forest- starling, wagtails, and wood pigeons.

After filling our body and mind with this vibrant energy, we were walking towards the car, and I noticed a few flowering plants and succulents arranged on the roadside parking area.

Thank you very much.
