Stroll in Tangier (City centre & Medina)

This post is a continuation of my last sharing. I told you about my stroll through the Ibn-Battouta neighbourhood where my cousin, with whom I spent a few days in Tangier, lives.

Last time, I left you as I was taking a taxi to the city centre and the Medina (the old city of Tangier). Today, I'm going to show you some of the beautiful places I discovered there!

I asked the taxi driver to drop me off at the station. When I arrived, I discovered a brand new, modern station! Just next door was the old station with its traditional architecture. It was interesting to see the two styles side by side.

Next to the station, there was a pretty square from which you could admire a small mountain covered in greenery and the roofs of the houses in a nearby district. A beautiful landscape to look at!

Afterwards, I went to a restaurant near the station to have a good Tangier breakfast before continuing my walk.

On the way, I left the corniche on my right and walked between the streets and boulevards. I took the opportunity to take a few photos as I walked.

After a few minutes' walk, I arrived at the Spanish Square. It's a beautiful square with several shops and cafés, very clean and well maintained. The houses around it have a lovely Andalusian style, and there are gardens with beautiful flowers. At the entrance, I also saw some old cannons, which gives the place a bit of a historical flavour. This square is also a gateway to the old Medina, on the eastern side. A really pleasant place to discover!

From this square, I entered the Medina through a large gate.

As soon as I stepped inside, the first thing I saw was a small square with a stunning view—on one side, the sea, and on the other, the narrow streets of the Medina. There were also huge cannons, which were surely used in the past to protect the city from attacks coming from the sea.

As I walked further, I discovered amazing sculptures made from pieces of wood. Truly impressive!

Next, I continued my walk through the narrow, winding alleys, passing by beautiful mosques and churches.

As I moved forward, I passed through the Fath Gate and arrived at Socco Square. It’s a large square with a roundabout in the center, very lively and popular with tourists. You can find people from different nationalities there, all eager to discover the city’s historic sites.

Around half past noon, I headed to a fascinating place: the Tangier Ramparts. This historic wall surrounds the Medina and is an impressive relic of the city's past.

Built in the 15th century by the Portuguese, it has been renovated several times over the years. This wall tells the story of Tangier. It allows us to see the city's ancient face while being connected to its modern life. A place I find truly unique!

After taking a short break in a pretty garden, my next plan was to visit the American Museum, which is located in the heart of the Medina. It was a museum that my cousin recommended I discover, and I went, of course, to visit it. And I don’t regret it at all, because it was an incredible place that really deserves to be seen!
