Lahboul Park in Meknes

Hello everyone in the Hive community!

I hope you're all well. Today I'd like to take you on a journey of discovery to a place I really enjoyed visiting recently: the magnificent Lahboul Garden in Meknes.

The Lahboul Garden is a real piece of nature steeped in history, set in around 5 hectares to the east of the Meknes medina. This superb park was laid out between 1915 and 1917 by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, a great French landscape gardener renowned for his creations around the world. Set on terraces overlooking the Boufekrane valley, the garden offers panoramic views and invites you to take a stroll as soon as you set foot in it.

After several decades of deterioration, it has been entirely restored in keeping with its original spirit, thanks to the efforts of the Mohammed 6 Foundation for the Protection of the Environment. Today, not only has the park been embellished, but it also plays an educational role in nature and environmental awareness. A wonderful renaissance for this Meknessi jewel!

As soon as I arrived, I came across a modern information panel that carefully explains the history of the park and its new development plan. All around me, long avenues lined with perfectly aligned trees, dense vegetation lovingly tended, an immediate invitation to get lost in the greenery...

A little further on, I came across an amazing artistic installation: a rotating cylinder decorated with a panoramic photo depicting a magnificent mountain landscape. It was both fun and aesthetically pleasing, and made me want to turn it several times to see the full effect!

As I walked along, I came across a lovely circular pool on a paved floor, surrounded by tall, majestic palm trees. The gently flowing water gives a feeling of absolute calm and freshness. It's really the kind of place where you'd like to come and read or simply meditate.

Exploring further, I discovered a small corner filled with ancient stone columns, relics of the past carefully integrated into the park's modern setting. It was a striking contrast between the old and the new. And then, of course, there's the small aviary with its magnificent birds. Seeing these animals evolve quietly in the middle of the greenery adds an incredible charm to the garden.

A little further on, I also admired an old stone wall covered in climbing ivy: a beautiful sight that I really admired! And to round off the walk, I ended up in a play area, with a huge chessboard on the ground, ready for a game of chess under the palm trees!

Walking around this garden, I had that rare feeling of discovering a hidden treasure, a place where nature and history blend harmoniously. Every corner exudes tranquillity, and everything seems designed to invite you to take a stroll, relax, or simply enjoy the moment. What I particularly liked was the simple, welcoming and soothing atmosphere that you feel as soon as you take your first steps. The park has clearly been given a new lease of life thanks to its restoration, while retaining its authentic soul. It's a great success story, and one that I heartily recommend to anyone visiting Meknes!
