Akchour waterfall near Chefchaouen
Hello everyone!
I hope you're all well and that you're taking some time out to relax and reconnect with nature whenever possible. Today, I'd like to take you with me to a little corner of paradise that I discovered with my family: the Akchour waterfalls, not far from the charming blue town of Chefchaouen, in northern Morocco.
Akchour is located in the Talassemtane nature park, a mountainous region renowned for its forests, clear rivers and hiking trails. It has become an almost unmissable destination for nature lovers visiting Chefchaouen. People come here mainly for its famous waterfalls, but also for the hike that leads up to them: a shady path lined with fresh water and rustic bridges.

After leaving the town of Chefchaouen, our car glided gently along the winding roads leading to Akchour. Very soon, the landscape was transformed into a veritable tableau vivant, dominated by green, dotted with touches of yellow and mauve from the wildflowers lining the paths.
The weather was perfect, with brilliant blue skies and light white clouds. On either side of the road, the hills stretched as far as the eye could see, covered with olive trees, small cultivated fields and rocks, some red, some dark.
The cliffs began to emerge more clearly. Some were steep and powerful, while others were softer, covered in an almost unreal density of vegetation. We felt smaller and smaller, but also more and more amazed.
The vegetation became denser as we approached our destination. Bushy trees, river canes and wild bushes surrounded the road, forming a natural corridor that was fresh and alive. We could feel the air change: purer, fresher, almost humid, we could already get an idea of what awaited us on arrival.
The journey itself was already an experience.

As soon as we arrived in Akchour, we immediately felt the coolness. The landscape had changed: the mountains were closer together, taller and more impressive, like a great natural corridor. We could already feel that we were going to love it here. Between the warmly coloured rocks, the water rushed out of a small dam and cascaded down to a clear river full of life. The sound of running water made the place even more soothing.
The path skirted the cliff, narrow but reassuring, with a magnificent view of the green heights. Each step revealed a new little corner of paradise: wooden bridges, natural pools where the water glistened in the sunlight, and gnarled roots plunging into the current. Some of the spots looked like something out of a fairytale, with colourful chairs set along the water's edge.
What I loved at the time was the stark contrast between the raw strength of the mountains and the quiet gentleness of the water gliding over the rocks. Nature here seemed generous, peaceful, almost maternal.

After a few hours walking, marvelling at the rivers and waterfalls of Akchour, it was nearly time to head back. But we didn't want to rush back. So, instead of taking the same route again, we decided to take a little diversions.
And what a great idea! This new route offered a completely different view of the Rif. The shadows stretched out slowly, the leaves danced in the light breeze, and sometimes, between the branches, we could make out small sparkling streams.
In the distance, from time to time, we could make out a village clinging to the mountain, a few white roofs, a mosque sticking out, and fields cultivated by hand. The road meandered quietly through this sea of green, offering us panoramas worthy of postcards.
The closer we got to Chefchaouen, the more we recognised the familiar silhouettes of the mountains that surround the blue city. The contrast between the vast expanses of green and the bluish walls on the horizon was striking. We could feel the day drawing to a close, but in our hearts it was still very much alive.

And so our little trip to Akchour comes to an end. I hope you've enjoyed this journey in pictures and words. It was a day full of freshness, nature and simple moments shared as a family.
