New year, new picz

Shot with Fujifilm X-T5, 50mm f/1

One of my goals for this year is to make self portraits again like I used to. Photography as a medium is very underrated and can show unique emotions different to paintings. Aside from that, it's also easier for me to create them as I use myself as a model. I just realized that I am indeed a very impulsive and impatient person so using photography for some of my ideas is a really great medium as I can finish them quicker than drawing/painting them.

So, the other day I just took photos of myself to develop those habits again and also so I can have a record of how I look like for this year lol.

I used the Nostalgic Negative film simulation on Fuji X-T5 as a base and experimented on the colors from there. Even though you can use those film simulations straight out of the camera, I still like adding my own touch in editing.

I had the highlights turned up to bluish green and the shadows orange. I was aiming for a bit of an ethereal soft vibe and a bit cinematic I guess.

The quality of Fuji 50mm f/1 (yep, f/1.0!) is INSANE and I regret not using this more often. The details are so sharp even at f/1 and it blurs the background so nicely.

I don't have many poses yet and more focusing on portrait shots. At some point I will have those whole body shots too once I think of a nice concept for it. :P

Gwapa! Self-portrait was my project back in the day to practice for wedding gigs and wedding portraits for the bride.

Thank you! Self portrait really helps you practice the flattering angles. Definitely a nice project to have since you have your own body why not use it lol

Wahhh, those are pretty shots, I like how your curly hair give a natural effect on those photos too. They are all clear shot and I can't help but to wish to also have your camera. Ah, I also like the shot of your eyes here, it shows how impressive your eyes are. (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)

Thank you! Yeah the hair looks really nice on camera. The eyes are enhanced by eyeliner 🤣🤣

But I also noticed how good you did your eyeliner. I didn't achieve that before huhu, and it looks really good on you.

Ohh I can't be a model for other photographers lol. I am very awkward when other people are around so in most photos in public or just with other people, I look stupid or awkward or don't know how to pose all of a sudden. I can only do it by myself and alone.

u have a photogenic face as well as highly expressive with facial expression just like your thoughts and drawing....it is good to follow what makes you happy at the end....be yourself !

Hey, sexy! Nice shots 😍
If only I would be that expressive and take part in this initiative, lol! Unfortunately, I was always bad at posing as I am quite an introvert and I feel awkward even when taking a selfie, haha.

Haha that's me before 😂 And honestly I can only do this alone. When other people are nearby or I'm in public I can't pose at all. Very awkward lol.
Thank you!

Same! But even just being on my own is a problem. I guess with practice I will become more comfortable lol

Not entirely sure but I think your self-portraits were one of the first things I noticed about your blog and noticed that you hadn't posted any in a while. Great to hear that you are getting back into them.

That f/1.0 lens looks gigantic on our little X-T5 🤣 but I bet see it produces nice quality.

Looking forward to seeing... you more often again.

Might be!
Yesss and it's also so heavy! Sometimes I actually worry if the part where we attach the lens will get broken since the lens is almost 2x heavier than the body 🤣 I have realized the lens matter so much when it comes to quality and sharpness. The sharpness of 50mm f/1 vs say 18-55mm is so much better and I thought it didn't matter lol.

That's very true. 'Everbody' always moons over cameras but in reality, it is the glass that counts almost more. I still have a shitty lens on mine but I can't be bothered right now. One day...

These are stunning! (you're gorgeous :D) and honestly, I think portraits give such endless room for exploration, play, and new discoveries. Not something to get bored with quickly :)

I agree! Like even when just showing parts of the faces can still say a lot of things. Thank you! :D

Yayyyy thank you!! I spent a lot of time on that, maybe 20minutes or more just trying to figure out what looks best for me since my eyes are kinda hooded lol and I initially used a liquid eyeliner but then used a black eyeshadow using a tiny brush and it worked so well. Glad you noticed it cos I was frustrated a lot at first on that and I am proud of it hahaha

Eyes are door to heart and soul and they speaks stories and narrate tales. These shots are incredible. Taking self-portrait is no doubt a good decision and goal for this year's photography.
