Blood Moon

blood moon.png

Shot with Fuji XT5, 70-300mm

Earlier, I took some photos of the total lunar eclipse in the balcony. I don't even remember when the last eclipse was seen here in Asia, but I'm glad this finally came back and can be seen here.

I haven't shot the moon before although I had an idea how shooting stars usually go. A tripod, camera remote, and a zoom lens are the best way to do it.

I did a bit of research for the moon and apparently you don't really need a long exposure setting for it. But of course an eclipse a different scenario which I'm glad I also was able to adjust to.

I started taking test shots of the moon around 11:35 pm during the penumbral eclipse. It had already started dimming at 11:27 pm but I started late because I forgot the time it's supposed to go and I thought it would start later at 11:50 pm. :p

It took me some time to find the right camera and tripod settings since this is my first time shooting the moon. I had to be creative with the tripod since the moon is right above me and my tripod has a limited angle rotation.

After 12 minutes, you can see the shadow on top better. Partial eclipse begins at 12:27 am.

The partial eclipse has begun.

Unfortunately, the clouds had started covering the moon. They can sense fear, so they start appearing when you needed them to NOT be there.

I can see the clouds being so thick and wide that I figured it would take quite some time to clear again.

I checked in every 20 minutes and to no luck.

Finally, the moon showed up again! I quickly took some photos while I can cos I can still see thick clouds surrounding it lol. It's crazy to think that that's our earth's shadow right there.

Full eclipse begins at 1:30 am so we're almost there.

I raised the exposure a bit and was surprised to see the red already showing up which I couldn't see at a lower exposure.

The totality has begun. I love the little highlights on the edges. It gives a really nice gradient of orange.

The maximum eclipse is at 2:12 am. The moon is so red and so beautiful.

The moon literally showed up for about 5 minutes before being covered by the clouds again. The totality lasted until 2:53 am so for others who were so lucky to get a clear sky, they were able to enjoy it much longer.

The shadow was almost gone here although I think what you're seeing at the bottom might be clouds instead. This was the last time the moon showed up again for me.

Here are all the shots I took for this year's Blood Moon. ❤️ 🖤

I'm glad that I was able to capture it successfully even though there were some hiccups along the way. It definitely wasn't easy but now that I learned to do it, I'm excited for another total lunar eclipse which will happen next year and will be visible here as well.

Hopefully it will be the other side of the moon as well.

Just kidding lol.

How lucky, my friend, beautiful photos of the eclipse. Congratulations. I saw a very similar one last year and it was amazing, the moon literally turns red, it seems surreal. This year in Cuba it wasn't visible, but it could be felt. Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos.

Did the forecast say you were gonna see it in your area or was it cloudy?

Yep it was meant to be clearly visible but it was cloudish, not great weather, I've been trying to spot it but nothing

Ah that sucks! I guess I was still very lucky as it showed up on perfect times despite being covered by clouds 60% of the time.

The moon is so mystical😓 I love your photoss. These are perfect shots to show the sequence of the eclipse. Amidst having trouble to the clouds, you still waited patiently and it gave you beautiful shots. Very perfect.

Yeah I really had to pay attention when to come back and check again since it doesn’t happen a lot. Sometimes too when an eclipse happens it is not visible in my country lol so have to savour the moment🤣

It's such a shame that we couldn't see the eclipse in America, but your photographs of it are so amazing that it's almost like we're living the moment. Thanks a lot for sharing so special wonder of nature

Wow! I have never seen a red moon before, in fact, I have never witnessed an eclipse before, I wonder how the world felt, was it in total darkness, or something else? This must be an unforgettable and memorable day for all those present at that time.

I especially admire the way you took records of each shot with keen details in each capture.
This is uniquely beautiful. Thanks for sharing. @hiddenblade

My warm regards 😊

It’s amazing to see in person. Someday you’ll see it too. :D I live in the city and there were lights from the neighbors but it was noticeably darker when it went full totality. The birds also started making noises for some reason which was not common at night. I guess they sensed it too.

Wow! It looks like you were all in a life movie.
It must be really scary for some people and their kids but interesting as well. And yes, the birds definitely sensed it too.

Thanks for the clarification. Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday ahead.😊
