Weekend, Boring, but still Useful and Fun!

Time To Work

The weekend looks the same for us as during the week. With the difference that my partner doesn't have to GO to work, but that he gets busy working at home ... the wooden sheds are thrown open early in the morning, the plug is put in through the kitchen window, and then slowly all the equipment starts to make itself heard. Working with wood can't always be quiet. That's how this weekend went. But besides a 'normal' working weekend, it was also a weekend where the sun automatically determines your day. Not because you have a very busy schedule or have to go from pillar to post. No, precisely because it is so nice to do nothing in the garden where everything grows and blooms, with a clear blue sky and a pleasantly warm sun on your skin.

Sunny And Clear Blue Skies

The weather was really beautiful. Bright sunshine from early morning until the evening, as if spring is still pulling out all the stops. Although I have to be honest: it is now very dry. You can see it in the garden, the grass is not yet brown and does not yet crack under your feet. And you can see it especially in nature around us. Everything seems to be waiting for a good rain shower. A deep, soaked draught of water that reaches the roots and makes the leaves shine. But for now, it is dry. Too dry. And although I like this weather, it could do with a good shower now, that would save us an extra day on which we do not have to drive up the water bill even further. Not watering would also be an option, of course, but that is not an option. We did not try so hard to get a beautiful garden only to let it dry out now.

Watering The Garden

So watering. And then after watering and working with Skipper ... then back to my firework while my partner was busy in the wood house. Our weekend was, as usual, quiet. No outings, no special adventures. Hopefully, our wood project that we are building together will one day become a stable source of income. And hopefully soon enough. Until then? Until then, we can only hope that our idea will catch on and do our best to realize it. At the moment, that mainly costs a lot of time and also the necessary money because we have to buy wood. Now, of course, it is still the weekend, and that means that in addition to time for work, there is also time to relax and enjoy.

Time For Skipper

And of course, we also enjoy that with extra time for Skipper. Our long-haired friend always brings life to the house and the garden. Skipper loves the sun, but even more our attention, and he prefers to combine the two. Sitting outside with him, while he sniffs at everything that blooms or moves, is a simple but precious part of my day, and of course, my partner enjoys that even more on the weekend. During the week, he has little time to capture these kinds of little moments with Skipper, so he makes up for extra on the weekend.

Deep Pink Beauty

In the garden itself, it is full spring. The rhododendron is in full bloom – truly a feast for the eyes. Those large, deep pink to almost red flowers are almost exaggerated in their beauty. They immediately attract attention, as if they want to say: “Look how beautiful life can be.” And then suddenly, between the stones by the washing line, we discovered chives. Not planted, neatly emerged chives, but spontaneous, headstrong chives – with those recognizable purple balls as flowers. They just stood there, as if they always knew they were welcome.

White Wagtail

Another small moment of happiness came from a white wagtail. He seemed to have a busy weekend, always with a mouth full of caterpillars, flying back and forth. Apparently, there is a nest somewhere nearby, because it has a mission. It is so touching to see how nature works, how every creature plays its part. So small, and yet so great.

Every Weekend Feels The Same, Monotony

And that was about it. No spectacular things. No excursions. No novelties worth telling about in detail. Our weekend usually looks like this. And let's be honest: sometimes it's a bit boring. Every day often seems the same as the previous one, and sometimes I feel the monotony weighing heavily. In the winter, I have less trouble with that, but as soon as the nice weather comes, I want to go out, just like many others. Provide some variety, and provide some visual input ... break the monotony. Unfortunately, that's not possible yet.

Enjoy What Is There

But within those limitations, we still try to enjoy what is there. The sun, the flowers, a wagtail with its caterpillars. Wood under your hands, a dog that lies next to you. Working together on something that hopefully has a future. Ordinary days, which sometimes unexpectedly show something beautiful, if you take the time to look.

I get it when the weekends look the same as the previous ones. I have been stuck under a couple of on call weekends. Beautiful if chilling at home and the garden work is awesome until I get called out. But when no calls...fomo and I just want to be somewhere else.

Regardless on how big the green is, it can still feel small!

I don't mind being home, but... and that's a big but, when your weekends have been pretty much the same for 10 years, it's not funny anymore. Life doesn't wait, I'm not getting any younger, the years are flying by, and I really feel stuck. We're working on making it better, and just as soon as we think it's getting better, something happens that makes it worse...

End of my rant... although I still want so much more than just being stuck at home in the middle of nowhere with almost no life around me.
