Tales of Clouds and Canines

Walking With Skipper

Like every day, I have to take Skipper for a long walk at least twice. German Shepherds have a lot of energy, and if I want a happy dog in my home, I must ensure that he can release his energy. So we do this by walking, I take 2 long walks a day, and my partner also takes him out 2 times. I also play outside with him every day. And since we had to say goodbye to Lana and Myla earlier this year, I suddenly have much more time. I now use that time to train with Skipper and teach him brain-training games.

Exactly One Year Ago

Of course, a year ago I also had to walk every day. At that time I still had 3 dogs, meaning I had to take about 6 walks a day. And exactly 1 year ago I took the photo that is my submission to the #pobphotocontest. Coincidentally, I was looking at this photo this morning, and when I looked outside I saw almost the same thing, only today it is even grayer. That gave me little motivation to take a 'new' photo, and that's why I decided to use this photo for the POB Photo contest this week.

Gray Spectacle

This spectacle of gray clouds stretching across the sky has been a very familiar sight in our country lately. Sometimes more beautiful than other times, but we see a lot of gray. With the occasional exception of blue and white sheep clouds.

Clouds Paint The Sky

Clouds have always had some kind of attraction for me. The weather often determines what I will do on a day. The clouds in the sky guide the type of footwear I put on my feet for walks with Skipper. But there's more to those clouds. I can honestly look at it for hours. Compare the sky to a large canvas and the clouds paint this canvas. Clouds are always moving and their shape and color are never the same for a minute. Now, I'm far from a weather expert, and I'm glad and grateful that there are apps that can tell me with reasonable accuracy what time a shower is likely to hit us. But by looking at the clouds and reading messages on sites that closely track the weather, I have learned something over the years.

Stratocumulus Clouds On The Photo

Different types of clouds adorn our skies, and we prefer to see the cloudless skies, or the skies with the Cumulus clouds. Sweet friendly white cotton wool dots in the air. Unfortunately for me, today my spot in the Netherlands had only a gray sky, the Stratus clouds, no structure to be seen, and therefore no interesting subject for a photo. Last year's photo was much better in this regard. Those are interesting Stratocumulus clouds. Not that I immediately become very happy when I see this type of cloud. There is a good chance that a shower will come crashing over my head from these types of clouds. But hey, at least it looks a lot more interesting to photograph. There are more types of clouds, but because, as I said, I am not a weather expert, I will not describe them now. Maybe another time when I have taken an interesting photo of such a different kind of clouds I will come back to it. In any case, today did not invite me to take photographs. Today's gray weather was more inviting to look for indoor activities. And maybe an hour of sleep in the afternoon...

Learn About Clouds

However, it remains interesting to know more about those clouds, because if you get the chance to photograph beautiful clouds, then you at least know what type of clouds you are photographing. And what the chances are that a shower will crash on your head from those clouds?

So, the next time you're outside and look up, don't forget to take a moment to look at the clouds. Who knows what you will see ...

Yep Zeus and now Wooda made sure I'm always going to be having one at my side.

And hopefully soon we can have more than one. Wooda needs a sidekick. Or a bunch. Was maybe thinking about doing a German shepherd rescue. Adopt a bunch and always have a pack of these amazing dogs.

That would be amazing if you can make it.

We're not looking for a new dog. Having to say goodbye to Lana in February, and Myla in March hit us hard. So for now we're happy with just Skipper. And Skipper seems to enjoy being the only dog too ...

Yeah wooda is always missing his bestie Sam. He loves rioting and wrestling. Sounded like a full out fight with all the snarling and snapping. But first yip both would stop and take a break and rest until the injured party dove back into begin the violence again.

It's wild looking from the outside. 2 huge dogs snarling and attacking each other in what appears to be mortal combat to the death.

It's hard to have a bond with these dogs. You know you have it when they are more than dogs and their loss pains as much if not more than a human passing.

They are more than just dogs.

They sure are more than just dogs. We don't have kids, and that is a very conscious choice.

But I can't imagine a life without dogs. Dogs are unconditionally loyal as long as you are good to them. And yes, saying goodbye to a dog hurts. I still have to get used to the emptiness in the house, and every day I think about the dogs that we now have to miss.
