Pretty Proud And Relaxed | Day 17 | HiveBloPoMo

Oh, a Haiku you say?

Never written one before,

But I'll give it a try.

A Great Distraction For My Occupied Mind

Today I learned something new again, and it seriously took my mind off the fact that I had to go to the dentist. The dentist is certainly not a hobby of mine, but today's blog prompt has allowed me to steer my mind in a completely different direction. Apparently today is International Haiku Poetry Day. And although I have written some 'poems' in the past, I have never dealt with Haiku. It's even fairer to say that I actually didn't even really have a clue what the Haiku is exactly, how you would write it and that means that I had to at least visit my great friend Google before going to the dentist for some more information about Haiku.

After some research I soon discovered that the Haiku originated in Japan. Oh well, I would have figured that out even without Google, but what I could never have figured out is the way a Haiku is supposed to be written. And I could never have thought of the meaning of the word Haiku myself. So this early morning I can say that I really learned something new. I discovered that a Haiku is a form of poetry that originated in Japan. It typically consists of three lines with a syllable count of 5-7-5.

My Gosh, I Wonder If I Can Do That

At first, I was somewhat intimidated by the idea of writing a Haiku. I mean, I'm no poet, and I'm certainly no expert in Japanese literature. However, I decided to give it a shot, and what better topic to think about for a Haiku than my three furry friends who greet me every morning. Yeah you get it, "My Dogs!"

Now you get that I didn't come up with a Haiku in just a split second, no way that would happen. If you really thought so ... well, I would almost ask, "Are you crazy or something?" Anyway, once I was in our car cruising the village roads and a short stretch of highway I could let go of my scary dentist worries and decided to try if I could come up with a Haiku. It's better for my brain either way, I mean...whether I'm worrying about the dentist I really need to go to, or whether I'm worrying about a Haiku I've never written . I totally agreed with myself, focusing on the Haiku was better for me, and ultimately much less scary.

Not to say that this was just a check-up at the dentist, and nothing 'scary' happened. Now that I've said this, you may understand that saying "The dentist is not my hobby" is really the understatement of the year.

I Think I Got Something

After some thought and a bit of trial and error, here's the Haiku that I came up with:

Dogs are very loyal friends,

With nicely wagging tails and wet noses,

Always faithfully by our side.

Pretty Relaxed

I have to admit, I'm pretty proud of myself for coming up with that in the waiting room at the dentist. And even more proud that I made a note in my phone so I would not forget my precious Haiku before I got back home. I never thought I could write poetry, let alone a Haiku. But now that I thought for so long about Haiku, and understand the concept a bit, I can see why it can be a popular form of poetry for people. Haiku are short and sweet, even funny, (yeah, I didn't feel funny today so forgive me that my Haiku is not funny). But my Haiku does include a lot of emotion and meaning.

Of course you can understand why I took my dogs as a subject. After all, it's easy for me to empathize with that. It is easy to find words related to my dogs, these words are on my mind daily. The dogs are never out of my mind, wherever I am, I always carry them in my mind. And when I find myself in situations that I don't like, that I really can't get out of, it's the thoughts of my dogs that can calm me down again.

Walk The Dogs & Cleaning The House

Now it's almost noon and I've been able to get 2 things off my list that both made me feel a little uncomfortable. Time to move on to the things I do every day, and feel very comfortable with. Having an early lunch in a bit, then walking my dogs is on the program and then ... well, then it's time for the next part of my Monday program, which is certainly not a hobby, but which comes back every time .

Keeping dogs gives you so much, love, security, activity, exercise, loyalty ... but also a lot of extra cleaning. LOL. So I'm going to quickly swing my blog online and wish you all a nice day.

See you again soon!

I did learn something new today too. I never knew Haiku has a stanza to be used. Thanks for sharing. I had fun reading through.

One thing I've learned in the times I've had a dog is, you clean and clean after them even if they are grown! Nice Haiku. I agree dogs are such cute and loyal friends. !PIZZA 🙂
