Wednesday Walk challenge : Mont Saint Habitant (Québec)

Today, for this Wednesday Walk, I'm taking you outside Montreal, less than an hour's drive away, to discover the family ski resort of Mont Habitant. Snow was scarce last week, but fortunately the resort has snow cannons, more than enough to teach you how to ski.

As I said in the introduction, the Mont Habitant ski resort is less than an hour's drive from Montreal, just outside the town of Saint Sauveur in the Laurentides. The mountain culminates at 370 meters altitude, which can be reached by two chairlifts. There's also a slope school where you can learn to ski in complete safety.

This is the chalet where you can buy your ski tickets, have a bite to eat after a hard day's skiing with a good poutine, or grab a hot chocolate (or beer). It's not very big, but it's more than enough to get you started. For the record, the Mont Habitant was opened in the winter of 1958 by ski enthusiast Marvin Mickey Stein and a few associates.

In 1960, the ski school was created at the instigation of his wife, Joan Goodwin Wilson Stein, the first woman in Canada to do so in Canada. In the photo 🔼, this is the school slope with its magic carpet that allows you to climb without getting tired. At the bottom of the slope, an old chairlift allows you to rest under the eye of the resort's mascot. More on the history of the resort, with photos from the past, at monthabitant.com.

The rest of the facilities consist of two chairlifts that provide access to the summit for larger slopes. But it's all in the family, nothing complicated. It's the perfect resort for learning to ski and making your first runs on downhill skis, snowboard...

Here's a quad (if that's what it's called) I would have loved to drive. It looks like a lot of fun. I wish you all a great day and hope you enjoyed your visit.

Thanks. It's true that a good hot chocolate after a day's skiing is good... especially if it's been cold on the mountain!
Have a great day.

Lovely. Did you ski? or do you ski? I don't but there is a small ski resort nearby similar to this one. For the locals and the new skiers.
