Wednesday Walk : Lac Joinville, Quebec

For this #WednesdayWalk hosted by @tattoodjay, I'm offering you a visit of the Papineau Labelle Wildlife Reserve in Quebec. A few days ago, I went camping on the shores of Lake Joinville in this magnificent region of the Laurentians. For nature lovers, it's a must-see with its forests, lakes, and rivers...

Here's a map to help you locate the Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve where Lake Joinville is located. The park is about a 3-hour drive from Montreal, north of Mont Tremblant.

Accueil Pie IX

This is the Pie IX reception area, normally this is where you have to register before entering the Papineau Labelle Wildlife Reserve. But it's now closed, you have to do this by phone and the network is very weak in the area. A great fun... it was better than with staff, plus they're selling wood and ice. I know that the SEPAQ isn't in great shape financially and the employees are on strike... I hope things will work out 🤞

To reach the Joinville campsite and its lake, it's about ten kilometers by car on a dirt road. You can't drive fast because there were many potholes from recent storms. But you can enjoy the beautiful scenery with this forest and lakes.

After setting up camp with the help of a good beer (see the next #BeerSaturday 😀), we headed to Lake Joinville beach in the late afternoon. No one was there during the week; it was Monday evening. And the water was warm, perfect for recovering from the car and pitching the tent.

DSC08429.JPG

In this lake, you can stand quite far out. You can enjoy the water peacefully, even for people who don't know how to swim very well. The sun was setting slowly... time to get out of the water to dry off and take a short walk to discover this very pleasant little beach.

DSC08453.JPG

The beach ends at a small river that connects to another lake. It was the perfect week to settle in because the heatwave was raging in Montreal. We're very comfortable staying cool with this lake.

The next day, the weather was more overcast and cooler. Perfect for exploring this area a little more. As I said before, the first few meters of the lake aren't very deep and sandy. It's very suitable for walking with your feet in the water. So I went to the end of the square to see the mouth of the river.

DSC08482.JPG

Too many branches in the riverbed to go any further, but above all, it was the exit of biting insects like mosquitoes and deer flies. I learned during this stay that I must have deer blood, these flies love me 😅.

Libellule

During these few days at Camping Joinville, I saw some animals and insects friendlier than mosquitoes like this dragonfly that took a break on this piece of wood. 🎁 Little quiz on the following photo: Is someone hidden in this photo? Can you find him/her? 🔽 To the first person who finds by writing a comment with the name of the species : 1 HBD. Good luck...

Bonne chance...

There was also this little squirrel, not at all afraid, ready to do anything to get some of our picnic. Luckily he was cute, so I let him do it.

At the water's edge, there was a Bullfrog, the largest frog in North America, it can measure more than 15 cm. This wasn't the case for this one which remained motionless hoping that we wouldn't see it. It almost succeeded. And finally, our breakfast friend, Roger the rabbit. Every morning, he came for a walk near our camp, but quite shy, no carrot managed to coax him 😀.

Flore / Flora

Pontederia cordata, Pontédérie cordée, Pickerelweed

And I'll end my post with some flowers. I don't know anything about this area. But now with software on the phone, it's easy to recognize them and learn more about them.

I hope you enjoyed this walk around Lake Joinville. It was a very relaxing five days with our feet in the water, enjoying what nature has to offer. Happy #WednesdayWalk everyone.

Really a very nice place to relax but perhaps still too many biting insects at this time of year, the only problem 😤
Thanks for your support

Well done... it's a snake. Walking along the beach, at first I thought it was a dead fish. I approached because it was intriguing... but then the head disappeared. It was a little snake.
For the reward you prefer HBD or HIVE ?
Enjoy your day

It is very well camouflaged. You have to look closely to see it. I've had the urge for a long time to go and spend days somewhere like this in the middle of nature... Camping.
Loved the wildlife photos.

It was just annoying at the beginning for the recording after I would have preferred a mosquito strike because they were a lot in the evening 😅
