Wednesday Walk : Alleys and StreetArt, Montréal
For this new #WednesdayDay hosted by @tattoodjay, I invite you on a walk through the alleys of the Plateau Mont-Royal, one of the neighborhoods in the heart of Montreal (Quebec). It's not the area tourists usually wander through. But I'm going to show you the importance of StreetArt in the streets, especially in winter when the sky is gray and the streets are white. The colors applied by the artists take on a whole new significance.
We walk up Rue Saint Christophe to the corner with Avenue Duluth. It's not exactly an alley, but it's similar.

Today we're in the Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood of Montreal. It's the French neighborhood; there's a large community of people from France, a bit of a "bobo" (bourgeois bohemian) vibe. I don't know if there's an equivalent term in English.

As you can see from the photos, in winter, Montreal's landscapes are often monochrome, with grey skies and snow-covered streets. Thankfully, it's not like that every day. This Wednesday, the sky is blue, and seeing the sun is great. During winter, doctors like to prescribe vitamin D to compensate 😀.
The color palette ranges from white to gray. On this balcony, even the icicles are white. Crossing Rachel Street, you'll find a splash of color with the restaurant Le Virunga, known for its cuisine that fuses traditional African recipes with Quebec products. It's a restaurant I have to try; it's highly regarded.
But the real splash of color comes from the StreetArt located on the side of Rue Chateaubriand. It's a mural that's a few years old now, by the artist Five8. It's refreshing to see green, red... Then, a few meters further on, there's the duo Los Keos, aka the artist couple Robe and Fore; here too, color is a welcome addition with these characters.
I felt sorry for that basketball hoop with its base buried in the snow. At least with the snow, I can finally dunk on that hoop.
I really like the balconies of this building on the corner of Saint-Christophe and Marie-Anne streets. The brick walls also add a bit of color.
In another alley north of Mont-Royal Avenue, there is also #StreetArt with flowers, nature like in spring with this mural by Izabelle Duguay then just after another mural, a tribute to Blaxploitation films made by an unknown artist.
Walking through the streets, you can admire the architecture, with its typical two- or three-story houses, called duplexes or triplexes. It's not like European cities with their longer history. But it has its charm; over the years and with each stroll, you learn to love Montreal.
I'm ending this #WednesdayWalk in the square called Le Jardin du Monastère (The Monastery Garden). I didn't even know the name of this former parking lot that's now been transformed. There, too, a mural adds a touch of warm color to this snowy square. I hope you enjoyed this walk through a slightly less touristy but still pleasant side of Montreal.
Happy #WednesdayWalk everyone! / Bon #WednesdayWalk à tous

It's beautiful! I know the cold has been intense these past few weeks, but for those of us who don't know what a snowy landscape is like, these kinds of images are captivating. I'm glad you're also focusing on street art; it's been a great walk you've shared today...
Yes it was cold last week, better in recent days. But the cold returns this weekend. But you have to go out and enjoy the winter. With StreetArt, we at least have colors on the walls.
Thanks for your support.
Have a great day
Happy #wednesdaywalk 👍 Love the neighborhood. You even made it to your fifth photo before featuring Street Art 🙂
If you look closely, there's already some StreetArt in the first photo... but I resisted the temptation to only include photos of murals 😅
Thanks for your support
Have a great evening / night
Wow a wonderful experience walking in the alley...thanks for sharing the beauty of streetart
I'm not sure it's a wonderful experience 😀 but it's a nice change from the main streets, especially since there's quite a bit of StreetArt in the alleys; it adds a bit of color to the heart of winter in Montreal.
Thanks for your support
Have a lovely day
Just looking how you capture each photos..each photos tells a lovely story and that made it a wonderful experience already...😍😍
