My New Plants! (Rosemary and Oregano)

Hello, friends of Hive Garden!🌱

Today I want to show you my new plants. They are a Rosemary plant and an Oregano plant (Origanum vulgare) or Oreganito, as we call it at home.

My mum and I have wanted to have these two plants for a long time, as rosemary has multiple uses, especially for hair, which was my main interest at first, as I understand that it is very good for strengthening the hair strand and stimulating its growth, but I know that it has many other uses; and Oregano is excellent for cooking. The flavour it adds to food is incredible. But we had not been able to get these plants. Until recently they were given to me as a gift.

This person had them in his house because someone else had given them to him as a gift, but as he was not interested in having them because they "always withered", he told me I could take them with me. Obviously I was not going to miss this opportunity.

He gave them to me in special bags for germinating seeds. I don't really know what those bags are called, but they have little holes to drain the water.

However, the plants were already a bit big and urgently needed to be transplanted to a place with more space for them. And that was a bit of a problem for me, because I don't have any more pots, for now. But with my creativity, it occurred to me to take two large, broken food storage containers and turn them into pots.

What I did was to cut holes in the bottom to allow the water to drain out. The plastic was thick and so, in order not to break them and end up damaging them, I used an old fork to open the holes and heated it in the fire before inserting it into the container. This way I opened the holes without damaging the container too much.

For the soil... I didn't have any compost, so I used soil from my backyard and mixed it with wood ashes and burnt dry leaves. My mum told me it was good for the plants and it also scared the ants away, so I listened to her. The soil became much softer.

Then I did some research and my mum was right. Ashes are very good for plants because they contain a lot of potassium, magnesium, among other nutrients that plants need to grow strong and have healthy fruits, and they also keep away pests such as ants, snails, worms, among others. So if you want to keep pesky animals away from your plants, use ash 💜

In the end, I think they look very nice even though they are not in real pots 😅

It's only been a few days but I see some slight growth on them. I'm excited to see them grow much more m already want to use them for cooking and many more things.

Actually, I haven't posted here for a while but that doesn't mean I'm not taking care of my plants. In fact, I want to show you many more achievements with my plants. For those who don't know I only have spice plants or fruit plants. And it feels good when you harvest fruits and vegetables from your own garden.

I hope you liked this post, folks, did you already know the benefits of ash on plants?

I love the location of your new plants, I am sure they are so easy to maintain in that location.

Yessssss. It's quite easy to have them there in the window. They get as much sun as they need and they are not bothered by insects. Besides, it's right next to my room. It's very difficult for me to forget to water them 😅😅

Oh, I should also do that, so that I am not going to forget watering my crops too! 😅

Ajaaaa another one infected haha.
I already knew that you had your plants a long time ago and that you take good care of them.
At home we have rosemary and oregano too, those and hierba buena are my favorite aromatic herbs.
Rosemary is delicious for cooking Bani, with chicken, pork and even with baked potatoes. It is only rarely used because it is quite invasive.
By the way. The improvised pots are beautiful

😅😅 Team plant lady. Ohh, I didn't know rosemary was used for cooking. I'll try it when I'm older. Thank you so much for the idea and for the compliment to my "pots" 😅

Yessssss. They smell amazing. I've never cooked with rosemary, but when they're bigger I'll give it a try. Thanks!

I always try to keep those plants at home, but unfortunately they die soon I don’t know why. Maybe not enough sunshine?

Maybe. I understand that these plants like a lot of sun. I always check on the Internet.

There are 2 of us when it comes to plants hahaha sometimes more than flowers or ornamental plants we also need these types of plants with medicinal uses or that are used in the kitchen, I don't have rosemary but I do have oregano and I always use its leaves for cooking. It's a great idea what you did to give them more space, they look very nice

Yess. I've never had ornamental plants, I've always liked to have plants that are useful. But I would also like to have flowers. Later ❤️

Thank you very much, Mary.

Omg, what nice plants. I love them. I would like to have one or two but here, it's impossible. Every person has her own pace and it's difficult. But I'm glad that you have them and take care of them, they have multiple uses.

Thank you very much, my friend. Every plant is a world. You can have succulents that require less care and water. Or cacti.

beautiful!
It is always nice and useful to have spices; I have carved out a space in the garden to plant quite a few.

I didn't know this thing about ashes and dry leaves, I will too!
