There are places in this world that simply breathe peace. For my family and me, the Simala Shrine in Lindogon, Argao, Cebu is one such haven. It is more than just a religious site but it is also our sanctuary where we find solace, offer our hopes and also leave with hearts a little lighter.

Last Wednesday, my husband and I embarked on a familiar journey from our home in Naga to this cherished shrine. The one and a half hour of travel was a balm for the soul in itself. As we drove through the Cebu countryside the view was beautiful. Tall coconut trees gently swayed in the wind. Green vegetable gardens covered the land showing how much food grows there. The only sound was the lovely singing of birds which is made everything feel peaceful.

During this peaceful ride, I found myself reflecting and letting the quiet beauty of nature seep into my being. It was a time to think deeply about oneself and calmly sort out the worries that were bothering the heart.I journeyed with the hope of finding that familiar peace that Simala always seems to offer a respite from the everyday burdens.

As we finally arrived at the Simala Shrine a sense of calm washed over me. Before entering the sacred grounds we purchased three roses and it was for Mama Mary. It was a weekday and as I stepped inside I noticed the welcome absence of large crowds. This, I have learned, is one of the gifts of visiting on a weekday also it is more intimate and quiet experience. The air felt peaceful and still making you want to think or pray.

The architecture of the shrine is always breathtaking,This place shows amazing faith and beautiful art. But what's really special is not just how it looks but how it feels inside. You can really sense the deep respect there aside from that it built up over many years by all the prayers people have offered within its walls.

As I stood before the image of Mama Mary a wave of emotion washed over me.In that sacred space my heart poured out its deepest longings.I prayed for peace in my relationships also for understanding and harmony to blossom where there might be discord.I asked for strength to carry the weight of my worries and to release the burdens that felt too heavy to bear. Simala is truly a place where I find my peace a sanctuary for the soul.

Leaving the shrine is a profound sense of calm settled within me. The worries that had clouded my thoughts seemed to have softened and replaced by a quiet hope. We carried with us a renewed sense of peace a feeling of being heard and comforted. The journey back home felt different from the landscape seemed even more vibrant and the birdsong even sweeter.
