Wednesday Walk - My Journey Through The Rice Fields

So, on this kinda hot afternoon, I wanna share a little story about a small adventure that turned out to be pretty epic. It all started last night when I swung by a friend's place and decided to crash there. The first thing that totally caught my eye was the view right in front of their house. It was this huge, sprawling rice paddy field, as far as the eye could see, totally giving off those chill rural vibes with air that felt way fresher than usual. It was 9 AM, and my curiosity just kicked in. Felt like a waste to just stare at it from the porch. So, I decided to take a walk through the rice fields right in front of my friend's crib. Who knew, from this simple stroll, I found some cool sights that I just had to share with you guys.

So, the journey kicked off on this little dirt path cutting through the rice fields. It wasn't exactly a wide open road, just enough for one person to walk carefully. Even though the sun was starting to get pretty intense, the vibe here was still super chill. Those green rice plants made the view, as far as you could see, look so fresh. I was totally soaking in every step on that path. It's simple, but it's moments like these that really calm your mind, you know? I feel like walking through the rice fields like this always has its own way of making you forget about the daily grind for a bit.

After walking a few meters, I could really take in how vast the rice fields were here. The rice plants still looked young. Guessing from their size, they probably weren't even a month old. Even though they were young, they were growing super healthy. The green was so bright and covered almost the entire field, making the view incredibly refreshing. In the distance, there were these tall electricity pylons, like EHV OHTL (Extra High Voltage Overhead Transmission Line). They definitely stood out against the natural rice paddy scenery, but it actually made for a pretty unique sight. On one hand, you had the peaceful rice fields, and on the other, these modern structures that transmit electricity to different areas. The mix created a pretty cool panorama worth capturing.

I also noticed the water puddles between the rice stalks. This water is what keeps the plants hydrated enough during their growth period. Up close, the rice stalks looked sturdy and healthy. No wonder the fields looked so green and well maintained. When I glanced towards the edge of the fields, I could see some villagers' houses not too far from the rice paddy area. This view reminded me that life for the people here is really intertwined with nature. You just open your door and bam, you're greeted by these massive rice fields.

As I kept walking, my attention was drawn to the water puddles among the rice plants. Taking a closer look, I spotted a snail slowly moving along the bottom of the water. Snails are pretty common sights in rice fields like this. Despite seeming peaceful, these little critters are often seen as pests because they love munching on young rice plants. And where there are snails, their eggs are usually not far behind. So, I started checking the rice leaves one by one, and sure enough, there they were. Clinging to one of the rice stalks was a cluster of snail eggs with a unique shape.

The eggs were super tiny, round, and a bright pinkish red. At first glance, they looked like strawberry flavored candies clustered together. If you didn't know any better, you might think they were decorations or tiny fruits growing on the rice stalk. The color was definitely eye catching against the overwhelming green of the fields. It reminded me that nature always finds a way to make us pause and notice the little things. From a distance, we just see a vast green rice field, but when you look closer, there's so much life going on within it. From the snails, their brightly colored eggs, to all sorts of other small creatures that are part of the rice field ecosystem.

My walk continued until I found a pretty unique spot. Right in the middle of the flat rice fields, there was a patch of land that was a bit higher up. This area wasn't planted with rice; instead, it was covered in wild grass, a few trees, and some banana plants. Honestly, the first time I saw it, I immediately thought, "Whoa, this is like a mini island in a sea of rice fields." Hehe. I walked closer to get a better look. It felt way more shaded compared to the open rice paddy area. The trees there provided comfortable shade, and the grass grew thick, covering most of the ground.

It seemed like this place was intentionally left like this. My best guess is that farmers use this spot as a resting place after working under the scorching sun. It makes sense because being under shady trees is way more comfortable than staying out in the hot fields. I imagined farmers chilling under the trees, eating their packed lunch, chatting with friends, or just resting before getting back to work. A simple place like this might seem ordinary, but it plays a pretty important role for those who spend most of their time in the fields.

In this little area, it wasn't just the trees making it shady. There were also lots of wild plants growing freely among the grass. Because their shapes were pretty interesting, I decided to snap some close up photos. Usually, these plants are considered weeds, but when you look at them up close, they actually have quite beautiful and aesthetic forms.

It didn't take long before the weather here got super hot and started burning my skin, so I decided to head back to my friend's place for lunch. I initially just planned a short walk to kill time, but this quick trip ended up giving me so much to see. Sometimes we get so caught up chasing after places considered beautiful that we forget beauty also exists in simple settings. Rice fields, dirt paths, wild grass, even little flowers we often overlook – they all have stories if we're willing to pause and look closer.
