The Natural Pool of the Isle of Pines new Caledonia. Part 2 below the surface (6 photos)

Yesterday I showed you what The Natural Pool in the Isle of Pines looks like from above - spoiler alert it's stunning, well today I take you below the surface.

This is very easy snorkelling. I should say I love snorkelling, but I'm also a awful swimmer, so places like this which are close to the beach/in a lagoon) that you can simply walk into without a boat are amazing.

I'll also tell you that all we had with us was a snorkel and mast and of course my underwater camera, which for those playing a home is a Olympus Tough TG4 which I hardly ever use but when I do I remember that it's an amazing little thing.

Also shout out to digital cameras in general, I remember diving with disposable waterproof film cameras and it was game of trying to not waste film. With digital I just shot and shot and shot, yeah sure there is a screen to compose shots but under the water that doesn't do much.

And as for the underwater world, amazing, I'm sure it used to be even better (I know I dove in Lifou which is only about 100km from here about 25 years ago as it was amazing) The coral does look a little bleached, but the fish life is still there and is still playful and colourful and amazing.

This day was probably our best in New Caledonia it reminded me again of how much I love the water, snorkelling and of course how precious these environments are and how much global warming is fucking them up. This thought did somewhat dampen the peaceful of just floating in water watching the aquatic world pass me by.
