Ruined in Whanganui
I find the spaces around the back of buildings interesting, people always put the work into keeping the front of the building neat and tidy, the face they show to the main street has to be pretty and without blemish. But the back, well that's a different story, the back is where we see the layers of stories, we get to wonder what has happened in this space in the past, be that last night, last year or 50 years ago, why is it broken the way it is, where is the hidden beauty, the composition in the haphazardly placed barrels and bins the the choices to paint the doors bright yellow, and place the horseshoe for good luck?
