Classic Castle

If you asked a kid to draw a castle, this is what they would come up with, at the very least it's what 6 year old me would have come up with, influenced by too long playing with a Lego knights set, or maybe it was Playmobile, and a castle my dad built for us, I'm not sure, but either way this is what it would be.
On top of a hill (very important for defending lands) classic shapes, just made for archers to peer through and some flags to show what side of the fight you are on.
This is the Moorish Castle or Castelo dos Mouros if you would like to speak Portuguese and is in Sintra about 25km from Lisbon. Built by the Moors (a much like a look of people I can't hear that without think the Moops.) in the 8th or maybe 9th century. The Moors are deeply important in history and the advancement of pretty much everything, also if you don't understand the Moors are Muslims from the middle east and Africa who conquered parts of Europe around this time.
And yeah - this is probably why so many castles in popular culture look like this
