2022 - A year in Pictures

12 photos taken by me to sum up a year - One for each month

After a 2021 where we were at home or close to home for a lot of it it is apt that this shot is from about four blocks away, the lines and modernity.

February

I my mind this photo is years old, in reality it is 11 months, there is something about this year, maybe more than many other that felt very quick at the time, but when you look back and think of how things were in February seem a lifetime ago.

March

This feels like a companion piece to the shot above, both in Melbourne's CBD, about 5 or so blocks from each other both taken on a weekday coming and going from the work

April

Outside of Melbourne, away for the weekend, this shot is so unlike others than I take (I don't tend to do cool, muted colours) but there is something about this shot that I love.

I do these trips so infrequently now, 15 years ago wandering around Melbourne on a weeknight taking photos was something I did once or twice a week, now it would be lucky to be once every 6 months. The stars is what makes this photo for me.

June

June and we are on holiday, escaping the cold of Melbourne and heading North. We are on the Yellow river in Kakadu National Park for this astounding sunset. I feels like we hadn't been anywhere in a while and this holiday kick started something

July

Back in Melbourne and it is business as usual, characters of the streets, as I try to make myself invisible.

August

Back on holiday again - this time Singapore, and when people ask us what we did we sturggle to answer, we missed the tourist highlights, instead we did what we would do in Melbourne, we explored, we sat in bars, a food courts, and I shot people on the streets, or in this case in a restaurant late at night do the books

September

September (1 of 1).jpg

I play some form of this game every year, and I always struggle with September, what is it about September that means I don't take many photos, It's early spring in Melbourne, maybe it's a in between month, not quite winter, not really spring, weird light, a lack of wanting to find anything, but time and time again nothing. I have over a thousand photos on Flickr taken over the last 15 years and only 45 of them where taken in September - what is happening here?

October

A classic shot, again not really my thing, but it is always nice to know that if need be I can still shoot technically proficient shots - this is the Erskine river in Lorne by the way which is a couple of hours west of Melbourne.

November

This is likely my favourite shot of the year - I'm not sure anyone else agrees but it feels very artistic to me, something which has been thought through well, getting that light to do what I want it to do - the fact that it was one of the first shots shot with my new camera feels important as well.

December

Absolute classic scene for me and a nice reminder that at the end of the day life repeats and the things that appealed years ago still appeal and that hopefully you are getting just a little bit better at stuff year on year
