Visiting the city of Gent!

First stop, St. Pieters Abby! I arrived a little late on the day so I couldn't get in any more, they were already closing up the building! But I could still look into the courtyard and the grounds around the abbey!

The Abby was founded in the 7th century and was build on a site that was used to be of the Romans!

There is a big garden around the abby and it has got a nice view! They have a big vegetable garden and a big fruit orchard! I made a panorama of the view!

Because this Abby was big and wealthy for his time, it was attractive by many looters, like the first time by the vikings in the year 880, and many more to follow! In 1566 the abbey suffered greatly from the iconoclasm, including the library was completely destroyed.
In the 12th century they build a church against the Abby, but they needed a new one in the 15 century! I think this is still that church!

I am not sure if the buildings that you see here are the originals from the 9th century! i cant find it online, I probably need to go back some time to have a look inside an hear the real history of this place!

But to bad I had to leave the area! they were closing up rapidly!
Could take this picture while we were accompanied outside!

This is the other side of the church and is located on a big open square that looks like a good place for festivals and markets!

And that's where I discovered this parking garage underneath the square! Parking St. Pictures square!

That looked like a big bookshelf! That was a nice find, an art piece called Monument from the artist Anouk De Clercq! I love findings like this! And I really like to explore and photograph them! So I went down!

They could have cleaned it a little bit, but maybe the green moss and dirt gives it a little temperament! Stairs are always good to take pictures of, but this one was a bit difficult! Some how I couldn't get it strait!

From this side it went a little better!

And then I discovered again that they don't really look at aesthetics of a building! Like these lights, they are not in the middle of the posts! My OCD doesn't handle that very good 😅

Really annoying 😬!
