Ribadesella, Asturias Spain

Hello travel and photo lovers,

My best season of taking pictures has always been autumn, but that was when I still lived in the Netherlands. Now a day,s I like winter a bit better. That's because you still have plenty of autumn colors around and the clouds are so pretty. Most of the time in summer, there are hardly any clouds in the sky in the south of Spain. So seeing clouds can still make me happy.

Like this day in the north of Spain, Asturias province. The town of Ribadesella Along the coast line of the Cantabrian sea, you have a magnificent view over the Picos del Europa mountain range and the snowy peaks are visible from far. There is already melting water coming down trough the Sella river and forms these shallow wetlands at the bottom of the mountains.

Subjects like this are a very nice detail in landscape photography. If you can find a nice angle and a good background, this could have been an awesome picture. This day I was to lazy to climb all the way down to get a closer look at the little boat. And it was a bit rainy to, so the grass was wet and slippery.

I love landscapes like this. All those layers of mountains.

It really is a stunning location.

The all the houses in the village that are in front of it all, almost makes it feel that you are in Swiss Alps. Until now of course. I haven't been here before so you automatically you are trying to compare locations with each other.

But if you see the bigger picture you find so many differences. Because where in the Alps you can say that you can stand on a beach and see the snowy peaks. And the waves are also way better in winter.

In the morning you can go for a hike or sky trip in the snow, and in the afternoon you can make a boat ride along the beach. Swimming is a bit to cold here in winter.

There is always so much history to see here. Look at the fort that stands head and shoulders above the rest. We wanted to visit it but it was already closed. that is the down side of traveling in the low seasons.

Lovely colorful houses along the shore line. this is a very pretty place. there is so much to discover around here. Asturias is one of my favorite provinces of Spain. Have you ever been here?

And if you walk a bit further towards the shore line, you can visit this lighthouse and have some lunch. They transformed it in to a restaurant.

I hoped you have enjoin my post. Tel me what you think of it.

Have a great Christmas every body.

That is indeed a very nice place you visited.
Love the fact the beach is so close to the snowy mountains.
Never been there. Well, as a matter of fact, only been to Marbella and some of its little villages to the east, concerning the south coast of Spain. Some day. Some day I will make it to the more rural parts of southern Spain, am sure.
For now, wish you a great XMAS.

I live in Andalusia now, the "out back" here looks like the old wild west. They even have filmed a lot of westeren movies here. There are still a lot of abandoned film sets around. I need to visit them to.

That sounds like a great place to be and live! Abandoned film sets: Must be amazing to see them; Could be a bit mysterious to say the least, but perhaps also some people living there? Wish you good fortune with hunting down those locations
