Museum Monday, the Dordrechts Museum. 400 years Johan the Witt!

Hello Photo lovers,

Welcome to a new episode of Museum Monday. Today I will take you with me to a museum in the city of Dordrecht. "Dordrechts Museu" There they have an exhibition of Johan de Witt. He was a Dutch statesman and mathematician who was a major political figure in the middle of the 17th century.

He was born on September 24 in the year 1625. In the 400th anniversary of his birth, the Dordrechts Museum is reflecting on the life of, one of the most important and well-known politicians in Dutch history. In a historical art exhibition with works by the most famous artists from the seventeenth century, the museum asks the question: Who was Johan de Witt?

Together with a group of awesome creators, we were invited to come and have a look at this new exhibition. And together we also like to make cool contend.

Johan de Witt was more than the most important politician of the 17th century. He was a bachelor in love, a loving son, a concerned husband, a good violinist, a talented mathematician and a grieving father.

IMGL7593.jpg

We know this from the 25,000 letters that he sent and received during his lifetime. The personal fragments of these documents have been overlooked for centuries.

On the occasion of his 400th birthday, they put the person Johan de Witt in the spotlight for the first time this year.

The exhibition ‘The World of Johan de Witt. Art from the Heart of the 17th Century’ introduces Johan as a person using his letters, personal objects and masterpieces from home and abroad by Rembrandt, Jan Lievens, Aelbert Cuyp, Jan Steen and Jan Asselijn, among others. In this exhibition we immerse ourselves in seventeenth-century painting that sheds new light on the life of Johan de Witt.

On exhibition, the letters as shown in the first couple of pictures. It's very interesting to see them and realize yourself that a person wrote them almost 400 years ago.

On the wall are letters who are written by visitors. In the front one of the books with the letters from Johan.

And those glas tops of the exhibition space causes very nice reflection.

Shooting the shooter who is using those reflections.

I saw this guy walking in the museum and than he was looking at this red paining. It was a perfect color combination. Nextime I need more time to shoot here, he is not completely in the middle.

There are big windows between the exhibition hall and the restaurant and reception. they were a little blue of color so that was the theme of these next pictures.

And a good museum must have a good set of stairs in them. Here they were just straight stairs but I tried to get them in frame nicely.

And a staircase in the back of the museum. There I encountered another bearded dude.

Brilliant 😄
Reading messages written by someone 400 years ago connects us deeply with history and makes us reflect on the lives and thoughts of people back then.

This is gold and you rarely see such photo shoot on Hive. Yes, we have many museum and exhibition photos, but not about people in the museum. Lively! I hope you're going to do it more often.

It must be really fun to work like that and not have to worry about what people are going to say and when the museum staff is going to throw you out 😀

Johan de Witt...
The name rings a bell.
He is one the main characters that are described in the book: "The Black Tulip", written by Alexandre Dumas, isn't he?
