Mind blowing church visit in Portugal.
Hello, hive friends.
Yesterday I visited the city of Aveiro in Portugal. I have already been there about 25 years ago to visit some friends who were competing in sailing competitions. The only thing I saw back then was the harbour and the beach. And ofcours the local pub next yo the harber. So now I thought it was a nice time to go and visit the city itself.
There is a campervan parking spot next to the train station and that was very convenient. It was just a 15 minuts walk to the city centre and there was a toilet nearby in tbe station. Always goid to have one close by. Also a big shopping centre with a supermarket was close by. It is an ideal place to hang out while visiting a city.
I took a little detour to the city centre that was less touristic. And that route took me to this church. The Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Apresentação church. I always visit churches, even though I'm not religious at all. It is a big part of our heritage, so it's a musr visit.
And in this church, they had some creepy stuff laying around. This is a statue of the dead body of christ. Nice and low by the floor for all the children to see immediately.
I am always flabbergasted by the whealt inside these churches. And that was the same in this one. This golden cross thing that was standing behind glass and was laid in with nice diamonds and other gems. I always think how many people could you feed if you sold a thing like this.
They had also displayed their silver nicely.
But what I saw next really blew my mind. They had a little museum in the back with some religious artifacts. I walk through them with you now.
A real live sized bloddy tortured body of christ.
A painting of some head shopped holy dude.
P3d0 prirst with his baby children.
Arrows in a body of half naked guy.
And the biggest bonus, in the middle of all this massacre, a children's play table with colouring books...
How is this for your child's indoctrination? Making them scared that quickly?
And then the sign with the word family. I think this is pretty bizar.
They also had this offering table standing in a room. It's an altar but from marble, and it looks like a medieval torture table where they sacrificed babies' ore someting. I know, it's my stupid brain. It also could have been goats.
And the church is going digital to. Offers by credit card.
I donated my money to the woman who was begging outside. Churches already have enough money.

Thanks for sharing your Aveiro visit! I love how you captured both the beauty and the strange contrasts inside the church. It’s always fascinating—and sometimes unsettling—how history, faith, and culture come together in these places. The modern touch with credit card donations really shows how traditions adapt over time!
I visited a church yesterday too, and they had digital candles 😅
