Light Painting - Calhan Painted Mines
Light to wonder
Shadows are a key indicator and often the basis for us to understand the dimensions of an object. Depending on how the light hits the surface we see some sort of texture. Most of the time that light comes from the sun and we are used to certain angles we are used to. with Light Painting, all that can change and the LightPainter decides from what angle the light comes. That can make the image much more interesting and makes the viewer wonder how that came about.
Using a drone as a light source holds familiar angles from what we are used to as the sun shining from above. She does that every day and we know what to expect. Yet the sky being dark is not familiar. That's the charm of Drone Light Paintings. We do see strong shadows yet it's hard to understand at first where the light was.
Schatten sind ein guter Indikator und oft die Grundlage um ein Verständins für, die Eigenschaften eines Objekts zu bekommen. Je nachdem, wie das Licht auf die Oberfläche trifft, sehen wir eine Texturen und verstehen Tiefe. Meistens kommt dieses Licht von der Sonne und wir sind an bestimmte Winkel gewöhnt, die Sonne macht ja immer das gleiche. Beim Light Painting kann sich das alles ändern und der LightPainter entscheidet, aus welchem Winkel das Licht kommt.
Die Verwendung einer Drohne als Lichtquelle enthält vertraute Winkel aus denen das Licht kommt, nur ein bisschen anders als wir es gewohnt sind. Die Sonne scheint eben nicht genau von oben. Nachthimmel passt nicht so richtig. Das ist der Charme von Drone-Light-Paintings. Wir sehen starke Schatten, aber es ist zunächst schwer zu verstehen, wo das Licht herkam.
Painted mines
What almost looks like a backdrop for an aquarium are some of the hoodoos at the Paint Mines Interpretive Park near Calhan in Colorado.
What you see is a single-exposure Light Painting with a 21-second open shutter. The Camera was set to ISO 500 and the Laowa 12mm Zero D F2.8 Lens was set to F11.
For this shot, I attached two flashlights to the Mavic Pro 2 drone with a steel wire. The flashlights would dangle back and for the while, I would move across the scene, just high enough not to be seen in the picture.

Bemalte Minen
Was fast wie eine Kulisse für ein Aquarium aussieht, sind einige der Hoodoos im Paint Mines Interpretive Park in der Nähe von Calhan in Colorado.
Was Ihr hier seht, ist ein Light Painting mit einer Belichtungszeit von 21 Sekunden. Die Kamera war auf ISO 500 und das Laowa 12mm Zero D F2.8 Objektiv auf F11 eingestellt.
Für diese Aufnahme habe ich zwei Taschenlampen mit einem Stahldraht an meine Mavic Pro 2 Drohne befestigt. Die Taschenlampen baumelten zurück und ich bewegte mich für eine Weile über die Szenerie, gerade hoch genug, um nicht auf dem Bild zu sehen.
On the top center you see the drone flying a little square. Just as an example. May be a bit to close to the rocks. Let's be careful here.
Wenn Ihr in der oberen Mitte schaut, seht Ihr die Drohne einen Hacken fliegen. Doch etwas zu nah dran. 🤦♂️

These very dark versions seem so mystic. Love also their simplicity about them.
Diese sehr dunklen Versionen wirken so mystisch. Manchmal ist es die Einfachheit.
How does it look during the day?
The weather was a bit dramatic and almost looked like it was night. Here you see the formation looking down the canyon. On the right, you find the featured hoodoos.
It was a bit scary at that time since there was a storm warning. I went anyway and there was a little lighting and good rain as I explored the area the first time. But after the sun set it got calmer.
Das Wetter war ein bisschen dramatisch und sah fast so aus, als wäre es Nacht. Hier sehen Sie die Formation, die den Canyon hinunterblickt. Auf der rechten Seite finden Sie die vorgestellten Hoodoos.
Zu erst war es ein bisschen beängstigend (Sturmwarnung gabs auch). Bin natürlich trotzdem los auch wenn es ein paar Gewitter und ordentlich Regen gab. Nach Sonnenuntergang wurde es ruhiger.
Ok where was that?
Just east of Colorado Springs is a small village called Calhan. Again just a few miles outside the village you find a parking lot and some walks to explore an area that is known as Calhan Painted Mines.
Östlich von Colorado Springs liegt ein kleines Dorf namens Calhan. Noch ein paar Meilen außerhalb des Dorfes gibts zwei Parkplätze und einige Spazierwege, um ein Gebiet zu erkunden, das als Calhan Painted Mines bekannt ist.
First, you see the earth opening up. But when you walk right into it you see wonderful colors and shapes. These rock formations are definitely worth visiting.
Zuerst siehst du, wie sich die Erde öffnet. Aber wenn runter geht, seht Ihr die wundervollen Farben und Formen. Diese Felsformationen sind auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert.

Was für eine Location Gunnar. Ich bin beeindruckt. Und das Licht kommt mal richtig geil. Wie viele Nächte habt Ihr da voerbracht? Ich konnte da ja ne ganze Woche rumturnen .😎 Viel Spaß noch und beste Grüße .
Ich war tatsächlich alleine und nur so 2.5h am Light Painting. Ja es gab noch viele coole Ecken. Überlege gerade ob ich nochmal hinfahre. Eventuell kommen dann paar Leute mit. Jetzt wo se gesehen haben was so geht. War wirklich nicht weit und super easy.
