Dandeloin Spin Part II.

Light Painting Camera Rotation of a Fragile Little Flower.

This time of the year again

As summer is approaching fast the Dandelions are popping up everywhere. Last night I was out for dinner with friends. On my way back I picked up a few and managed to get 3 of them home safely and unharmed. So I had a few ideas that all fell through. But hey it was a good practice run. I might try again more in the coming days.

At first as always lighting test without turning the entire rig. Just quick a reference shot.

Spin

The original plan was to keep a 30° or 45° area open on the top and have another dandelion flight in flames in the center. This time that did not work, but stay tuned if I get it right next time.

Full Spin

Next time I need to bring more of these. But they are so fragile. Anyhow I ran through two of them very quickly. Not even 1 min in I was left with only one. When they don't have water they bend really quickly even during your exposure. So one has to act quickly. Once I burned through two of the Dandelions I knew my original idea was not possible last night.

Man muss also schnell handeln.

Set & Settings

For these Light Paintings, I used My Sigma 105mm F2.8 Macro lens at F22. The camera was set to ISO 100 to get the maximum exposure times. This way I was able to use a stronger flashlight and dump the background into deep black for sure.

With the camera on the rotation rig, the photo took 51 a. 62 seconds of exposure time with all rotational steps.

Fire it up

As the ultimate glorious last step I lit up the Dandelion. It's just soooo cool. Don't you think? This time I made the mistake that the flame was on 9 or 3 o'clock so the flame escaped my frame. Last year this idea worked a bit better. But it does not mean there not more flowers around the next weeks.

Einfach so cool.

Colors maybe next time again 😍

If you think this is Spam, why did you read this far, and why the fuck bother you? Move on from your self-righteous mind state and bury yourself. Don't bother about what others may find interesting. Just stay in your bubble and ...

Cheer Up, Guys!
