A Venezuelan in Bangkok? My trip to Thailand - The Royal Grand Palace.
Un viaje sin precedentes en mi vida.
Este acontecimiento cambió mi forma de ver al mundo para siempre, un día, una mujer muy especial en mi vida me pidió que la acompañara a un viaje, su destino era Tailandia. Imagínense que yo ni siquiera había escuchado que existía ese país, y menos que quedaba tan lejos de Venezuela.
Yo nunca había salido de Venezuela (Porque este evento sucedió antes de mi Gira por Bolivia), estaba emocionado y al mismo tiempo nervioso, acepté la invitación y acto seguido trabajamos en pro de conseguir las Visas Tailandesas y preparar todo lo concerniente para el Viaje, no fue tarea fácil porque era la primera vez que gestionaba un viaje internacional, así que ambos trabajamos durante casi 2 semanas en prepararnos para esta aventura.
Este viaje fue una historia increíble para mí, pero eso lo dejaré para otra publicación, ahora mismo, me enfocaré en explicarles un poco como fue mi experiencia en el Gran Palacio de Tailandia.
Debido a factores de tiempo y energía no pudimos recorrer todo el Gran Palacio Real, nos faltó el Gran Buda y otras áreas.
An unprecedented journey in my life.
This event changed the way I see the world forever. One day, a very special woman in my life asked me to accompany her on a trip. Her destination was Thailand. Imagine that I had never even heard that this country existed, much less that it was so far from Venezuela.
I had never left Venezuela (because this event happened before my tour of Bolivia). I was excited and nervous at the same time. I accepted the invitation, and immediately after, we worked on getting the Thai visas and preparing everything for the trip. It was not an easy task because it was the first time I had managed an international trip. We both worked for almost 2 weeks preparing for this adventure.
This trip was an incredible story for me, but I will leave that for another post. Right now, I will focus on explaining a little about my experience at the Grand Palace of Thailand.
Due to factors of time and energy, we were unable to tour the entire Grand Royal Palace; we missed the Great Buddha and other areas.
El Gran Palacio Real
Llegar aquí fue una odiosea increíble, pero todo el esfuerzo que hicimos para llegar dio sus frutos cuando vimos la magnificencia del lugar, fue aquí en el Gran Palacio Real que pudimos conversar con personas que hablaban español, ya que este es para muchos expertos, el lugar más emblemático para el turismo Tailandés, pudimos hablar con Peruanos, Uruguayos, Colombianos y Dominicanos, y por supuesto vimos personas de otras nacionalidades del mundo recorrer el extenso territorio que abarca este milenario lugar.
Realmente conozco muy poco de la historia del Gran Palacio, y no voy a explicar su Origen aquí porque es algo que fácilmente se puede leer en otro sitio. Voy a relatar mi experiencia como turista Latinoamericano.
Pues bien, una cosa que nos pasó fue que al llegar, el taxista solo nos aceptó la moneda nacional: El Baht Tailandés, si piensas viajar a este lugar en algunos sitios de Bangkok aceptan dólares pero lo mejor es cargar Baht Tailandés, una gran recomendación que te doy.
Otra cosa, es que prácticamente nadie habla inglés, muy pocas personas hablan un inglés muy torpe, y español ni se les ocurra pensarlo... Absolutamente nadie habla español!
Debes estar mentalizado en esto, porque no es fácil estar en un lugar a miles de kilómetros donde literalmente no puedes hablar con nadie...
Volviendo al Palacio, apenas llegamos quedamos desconcertados por el inmenso tamaño del lugar y que además tiene arquitectura fusiona el estilo Europeo con el estilo Asiático, consta de varias àreas que son enormes, desde templos budistas hasta un edificio histórico para los textiles de la familia Real Tailandesa.
Para poder entrar debes pagar un ticket que cuesta 500 Baht por persona, eso te da acceso a todo los lugares (o bueno eso es lo que yo recuerdo).
The Royal Grand Palace
Getting here was an incredible odyssey, but all the effort we made to get here paid off when we saw the magnificence of the place. During our entire trip through the Eastern country, it was here at the Grand Palace that we could talk with people who spoke Spanish. According to many experts, this is the most emblematic place for tourism. We were able to talk with Peruvians, Uruguayans, Colombians, and Dominicans, and of course, we saw people from other nationalities around the world touring the extensive territory that this ancient place covers.
I honestly know very little about the history of the Grand Palace, and I'm not going to explain its origin here because that's something you can easily read about elsewhere. I'm going to recount my experience as a Latin American tourist.
Well, one thing that happened to us was that when we arrived, the taxi driver only accepted the national currency: the Thai Baht. If you're thinking of traveling to this place, some places in Bangkok accept dollars, but it's best to carry Thai Baht—a great recommendation I can give you.
Another thing is that practically no one speaks English. Very, very few people speak very clumsy English, and don't even think about Spanish... Absolutely no one speaks Spanish!
You have to be mentally prepared for this because it's not easy to be thousands of miles away in a place where you literally can't talk to anyone...
Returning to the Palace, as soon as we arrived, we were bewildered by the immense size of the place and the fact that its architecture fuses European and Asian styles within this immense architectural complex.
To get in, you have to pay a ticket that costs 500 Baht per person; that gives you access to all the places (or at least that's what I remember).
Contrast between Religion and Royalty.
This place is understood to be one of the few sites in Asia that has not been conquered by another nation. It has always remained under Thai rule (from what I had researched), and I don't even know how many years old it is.
Something that is extremely striking is how this place merges the characteristics of the Monarchy with Religion. Wherever your eyes look, there are flashes of Buddhism and Royalty, which makes you understand that both institutions are the basis of power in Thailand.
The number of people there that day was astounding. People from all over the world went to contemplate the magnificence of the Palace, which literally houses thousands of years of ancestral culture.
Contraste entre la Religión y la Realeza.
Este lugar tenía entendido es uno de los pocos sitios de Asia que no ha sido conquistado por otra nación, se ha mantenido siempre bajo el dominio Tailandés (según lo que había investigado), realmente ni siquiera sé cuantos años de antigüedad tiene.
Algo que es sumamente llamativo es como este lugar fusiona las características de la Monarquía con la Religión, a donde tus ojos vean hay destellos del budismo y de la Realeza, por lo que comprendes que ambas instituciones son la base del poder en Tailandia.
La cantidad de personas que había ese día era impactante, personas de todo el mundo fueron a contemplar la magnificencia del Palacio que alberga literalmente miles de años de cultura ancestral.
The Importance of Good Company
This trip was very exciting, but also dangerous. As I mentioned, traveling 17,500 km away from home to a new culture with no way to communicate with anyone takes a lot of courage.
This journey wouldn't have been possible without my adventure partner, a person who remained calm at all times and knew what we needed to do.
For an adventure of this level, I recommend traveling with really good people. You need a solid team if you want everything to go well—people you know will have your back and would risk their lives for you.
Moments of uncertainty are when you really get to know people. You realize who you can count on and who has the most conviction. I wouldn't want to find myself in the middle of nowhere with someone I don't trust or get along with.
I would go to the ends of the earth with her again. Thank you for making me a part of this extraordinary trip. I dedicate these words to you with a lot of love.
La importancia de una buena compañía.
Este viaje fue muy emocionante pero tambien peligroso, como les comenté, viajar 17500km lejos de tu hogar, hacia una nueva cultura, sin posibilidades de comunicarte con prácticamente nadie es algo que requiere mucha valentía.
Este viaje no hubiera sido posible sin mi compañera de aventuras, persona que en todo momento guardó la calma y logró discernir lo que debíamos hacer.
Para una aventura de este nivel, les recomiendo andar con muy buenas personas porque necesitas un buen equipo si deseas que todo salga bien, andar con personas que sepas que te van a cuidar la espalda y arriesgaran su vida por tí.
En momentos de incertidumbre es que conocemos realmente a las personas, nos damos cuenta con quienes contamos, quienes son los que mayor convicción tienen sobre sí mismos. No me gustaría encontrarme en el medio de la nada con alguien de quien no confío o no tengo buen trato.
Con ella iría hasta el fin del mundo nuevamente, gracias por hacerme parte de este extraordinario viaje, te dedico estas palabras con mucho cariño.

Wow genial, parece un lugar de cuentos, se siente mágico y deslumbrante tal como detallas. El que poca gente del país hable siquiera inglés sí que lo hace un reto, creo que sería lo más complejo aunque con tanta tecnología ahora mismo creo se podría resolver. ¡Que experiencia tan brutal! Mira fíjate que sí, la tecnología nos ayudó mucho, usamos mucho el traductor para poder comunicarnos pero eso es un arma de doble filo, puesto te arriesgas a no saber si la traducción es correcta!
Por eso lo usamos solo en casos muy necesarios.
