Expedition: Slovak Tatra Mountains

The season looks like it's starting, but since the cheesecake is stuck in the throat and the rain is coming back next week... we'll finish our backlog...
In mid-September we went to Slovakia to see the foothills of the Tatra Mountains from the south, and also take up the mountain challenge of reaching the deepest and highest possible places on a bike. The September date, despite concerns about the weather, turned out to be a hit. Slovakia welcomed us with sunny, warm and even windless weather, and thanks to the fact that we went after the holiday season, also a tolerable number of tourists on the roads and trails. We could easily claim to be very exotic tourists, having in our group a cyclist straight from India who admitted at the beginning that he doesn't ride a bike much and that he doesn't ride a bike very well, but despite our gentle suggestions that the trip the highest mountain range in this part of Europe is not the best idea for the first trip with GTR, but he insisted that he wanted to go and you know what? He managed and was happy with the route!
The route is undoubtedly demanding, but worth taking. Slovak tourist destinations at the foot of the Tatra Mountains are several classes higher in terms of urban planning than our site. They can boast of gems of 19th century architecture and quite neat contemporary works. Additionally, there is a very nice gravel and asphalt bicycle path running along the Tatra Mountains.
But what would a trip to the mountains be without mountain bonuses? There were them too. Two really solid sweat-breakers (with all the other hills of the trip not even remembered). The first climb, to Hrebieniok, may not have been long, but it led to the highest point of the day - located about 1,300 m above sea level. And if it wasn't long and ran high, what was it like? Yep, you guessed it. Steep! It was very tedious on the uphill and (too) fast on the descent. The second mountain climb was only a few kilometers after the first one, unfortunately preceded by a descent to the very bottom, so we had to climb arduously again, this time to 1200 m above sea level. along the ski slope, because the destination was the intermediate station of the cable car to the top of Tatranská Lomnica. The view of this majestic mountain and the opportunity to bask in the grass after a successful climb was a great reward for the long climb.
In this way, we had a pleasant weekend in the Tatra Mountains, but it was not the last trip of the season or the last mountain bonuses. For the most persistent, two weeks later there was another mind-blowing challenge, but let's not anticipate the facts...

Sezon wygląda jakby się zaczynał, ale że sernik stanął w gardle, a na przyszły tydzień znów wraca deszcz... dokończymy jeszcze nasze zaległości...
W połowie września wybraliśmy się na Słowację, by obejrzeć podnóże Tatr od południowej strony, a także podjąć wyzwanie górskie dotarcia najgłębiej i najwyżej gdzie tylko to możliwe na rowerze. Wrześniowy termin, pomimo obaw o pogodę, okazał się strzałem w dziesiątkę. Słowacja przywitała nas słoneczną, ciepłą i nawet bezwietrzną aurą, a dzięki temu że wybraliśmy się po okresie wakacyjnym, również znośną liczbą turystów na drogach i szlakach. Sami mogliśmy śmiało pretendować do miana bardzo egzotycznych turystów, mając w swoim gronie rowerzystę prosto z Indii, który sam na wstępie przyznawał, że mało jeździ na rowerze, a pod górę to już w ogóle słabo, ale pomimo delikatnych sugestii z naszej strony, że wyjazd w najwyższe pasmo gór w tej części Europy nie jest najlepszym pomysłem na pierwszy wyjazd z GTR, jednak uparł się, że chce jechać i wiecie co? Dał radę i był zadowolony z trasy!
Trasy niewątpliwie wymagającej, ale wartej przejechania. Słowackie miejscowości turystyczne u podnóża Tatr stoją o kilka klas wyżej pod względem urbanistyki niż nasza strona. Mogą pochwalić się perełkami architektury XIX wieku i całkiem schludnymi realizacjami współczesnymi. Dodatkowo, wzdłuż Tatr przebiega bardzo fajna, szutrowo-asfaltowa droga rowerowa.
Jednak czymże by był wyjazd w góry, bez premii górskich? Były i one. Dwa naprawdę solidne wyciskacze potów (przy których wszystkie inne górki wyjazdu nawet nie zostały w pamięci). Pierwszy podjazd, na Hrebieniok, może nie był długi, ale za to prowadził na najwyższy punkt tego dnia - położony około 1300 m n.p.m. A jak nie był długi, a prowadził wysoko, to jaki był? Tak, zgadliście. Stromy! Było bardzo mozolnie na podjeździe i (za) szybko na zjeździe. Druga premia górska była zaledwie kilka kilometrów po pierwszej, niestety poprzedzona zjazdem na sam dół, więc trzeba było znowu mozolnie się wspinać, tym razem na 1200 m n.p.m. po stoku narciarskim, bo celem była pośrednia stacja kolejki na szczyt Tatrzańskiej Łomnicy. Widok na tą majestatyczną górę i możliwość powygrzewania się na trawie po udanym podjeździe stanowił wspaniałą nagrodę za długą wspinaczkę.
W ten sposób upłynął nam przyjemnie weekend pod Tatrami, ale to jeszcze nie był ostatni wyjazd sezonu, ani ostatnie premie górskie. Dla najwytrwalszych, już dwa tygodnie później szykowało się jeszcze jedno uderzające do głowy wyzwanie, jednak nie uprzedzajmy faktów…
