Sharambeyan Street , Old Dilijan. Armenia September 22

I have since found out there is so much to see in Dilijan as a whole, but our leader was in such haste to get to........the next fucking church/cathedral/monastery, so as to prattle on and on and on like a tramps overcoat about shit we don't need to know we only got to spend about 30 minutes or so visiting Sharambeyan Street, Old Dilijan.

We though, in all honesty, only needed 30 minutes. Sharambeyan Street was created not in ancient soviet times, but recent Soviet times .... 1979, by artist Hovhannes Sharambeyan.

Hovhannes vision was to present the lifestyle and history of the region. In 2004, thestreet was "leased" to James Tufenkian, a wealthy American of Armenian heritage. He began a programme of restoration, as well as opening a hotel, part of his tourism business empire. (guess you need to recoup your outlay somehow).

Apart from a couple of souvenir shops, there was nothing open, to see.

There were, once, five churches in Dilijan, all of them over time and for various reasons destroyed. Today the spiritual center of Dilijan where residents can attend services is within the Old Dilijan Hotel Complex.

Dilijan looks so beautiful though. Like it's a step away from a fantastic medieval era. I'm sure there's so much more to see so I hope you're successful in exploring it all. The photographs of the scenery are particularly nice.

Still interesting, even when it was build much later and restored.
The street does look beautiful. You captured some great angles.
Hope the guide wasn’t all the time in such a hurry.
Never done guided tours to be honest… just for that reason. You have to keep going even when you want to discover more 😎

yes, that is a valid point about guides, but when you get transport thrown in as well it helps, fortunately got a lot of free time to do my own thing.

I think there are still lots more to see over there... Maybe there are wildflowers that are worth seeing concealed in the greeneries also of various species of birds, too. Have a nice day ahead!🤗♥️👍

Atmosphere appears to have been well captured to represent some of what was there previously.

Invasions of territory over the years took a toll on churches of old, no place to hide!

Armenia seems fascinating. A new street build to look old. I ti sgreat that you could get away to make some great photos. I love the one from above which provided and overview also the balck and white photo. The area looks so peaceful and beautiful. Lovely walk (despite the guide's tattle!)
