Graves , San Ignacio. Belize

It's a bit of a bummer when you rock up with a corpse under your arm and find out you forgot to ask for permission to stuff it in the ground. fail to prepare and you prepare to fail and all that.

I guess it is understandable as the place was rammed , full to the rafters, it was itself a bit of a death trap with no discernible paths and tripping hazards everywhere.

There were quite a few marked with English names.

Belize, formerly,British Honduras from 1783 to 1964, the imperialist english raped the land for mahogany and other timber. In places forcing the indigenous population out of their habitats enslaving them to work the forests or just selling them in the slave trade.

The cemetery is always sad . But many people like to walk there....there is some kind of energy there, especially in the old ones.

I like how they ordered the list: "Son, brother, uncle, boyfriend, cousin, and friend". So status of the boyfriend is higher than one of the cousin in Belize, but the uncle beats both the boyfriend and cousin. Good to know. 😄

Belize, formerly British Honduras

But that's how we can read many inscriptions on the graves. Priceless.

Love the post, love visiting cemeteries.
