Paddling on Skadar Lake

After a long ride on a narrow, curvy mountain road we finally reached our destination, a remote and magical beach on Skadar Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans, shared by Montenegro and Albania and protected as a national park full of quiet beauty and birdlife. Right across is Beska Island with its historic Orthodox monastery and churches from the late 14th and early 15th centuries. We camped in our car right at the shore, woke up to a soft, golden sunrise over the still lake, and started the day with a morning paddle in perfect peace.

The smoke in the background is from a wildfire. And yes, it's a pelican!

The water close to the beach still has 30°C!
