Art in the sky

The first thing I usually do after I get up in the morning is to look out of the window to check the sky. Whenever I'm outside I'm as aware of the scenery of the sky as of the surrounding landscape. Especially during the early mornings and late afternoons when the sun is low my attention is all above the horizon. It's always such a joy to observe these constantly changing forms and colors, sometimes so breathtakingly beautiful. If the camera is at hand, then, of course, I'm taking pictures. Over the years I took hundreds of such images, some of them I later used as references for the backgrounds of my paintings. Here is selection of shots I took in the last few years, many of them directly from the balcony of my house in Lower Austria or in the neighborhood.
