Our second day in Oman was to amble through greenery and into the alluring Wadi Darbat. The ride there was already an escapade. The rolling hills and lively green unbend endlessly along the road. The mountains were partly hidden in the remaining fog and soft clouds. The weather added a misty trait to the landscape, as if nature itself was telling a secret abode just for us.

When we came at Wadi Darbat, the first thing that caught our eyes were signage and promotional displays for Darbat Park, welcoming visitors with a vibrant introduction to the place. The entrance appeared a striking pathway that felt both lively and tempting. Stylish arches lined the route. Each decorated with radiant lights that beacon the way. A purple carpet ran along the path adding a touch of charm. It makes a lively tone for the pretty experience that awaited us beyond the entrance. My husband went right away to the booth to pay for our boat ride. I stayed abaft to seize the scenery with my camera.

I took in my environs it was stunning to witness such a lush oasis in the heart of the Middle East. A pretty reminder of nature’s vast capacity to surprise and glee. Along the water’s edge there were colorful kayaks, paddle boats and swan-shaped boats on display ready for visitors to tour. A wooden platform amplify into the water, serving as the docking area for the boats and adding a quaint, organized touch to the otherwise natural and serene landscape.

My husband called me as it was time to collect our life jackets. The boat crew checked our tickets and handed us our vessel. As we moved in a sense of childlike thrill poured us. We laughed as the boat swayed slightly. Even though my husband struggled at first to maneuver it he quickly took control guiding us smoothly across the calm waters. Our route led north we saw a small waterfall flowing over attractively formed stones. With ducks wandering peacefully beneath it. The mountains were covered in dense greenery. The clear water reflected the dynamic colors of the trees and sky. Despite the other visitors sharing the river there was a keen sense of serenity that enveloped us. It allows us to fully appreciate the beauty of Wadi Darbat.

At the northern end, we turned back to explore the southern part of the wadi. We passed the grand Darbat Park signage flanked by two fountains. The landscape continued to amaze us. The tall trees lining the riverbanks and still waters mirror the lure around us. We paused sometimes to take in the scenery. We feel completely immersed in the peaceful environment. When our boat ride time neared its end, my husband steered us back to the dock. Leaving the boat we felt a dash of happiness and satisfaction.

The café seized my attention with its charming heart-shaped archway. It was enhanced by a veiled purple carpet that embraced visitors with a sense of comfort. Its spot was truly one-of-a-kind. It was tucked within the natural form of a limestone cave. The raw textured walls of the cave created a dramatic yet cozy ambiance. It makes the café feel both intimate and extraordinary. A perfect blend of nature’s artistry and reflective style. We ordered cake and cold drinks. We took a moment to immerse ourselves in the ambiance before we continued our walking.

Wadi Darbat unfolded a vast area far larger than we had anticipated. There were food carts in the area. There were tables and chairs for those who wanted to pause and steep in the quiet environs. As we continued along the path a wooden arch stood saliently in the middle. It adds a highlight that superbly goes with the natural atmosphere.

As we continued our stroll we came across a number of restaurants. Each displayed amazing styles that added a delightful charm to the surroundings. Their rare structure and aesthetic touches blended beautifully with the natural scenery. It creates a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. We saw another sign of Wadi Darbat flanked by fountains. The boat rentals lined the riverbanks implying more ventures to come.

As we strolled further, we came across an alluring wooden arch draped with cream colored fabric. It formed a tunnel like entrance that invited us to walk through. At the end stood a wooden bucket, where water flowed gracefully from an overhead spout. Its light flow adds a soothing touch to the riverside backdrop. Just beside it was a swing adorned with red and white flowers creating a romantic and picturesque appeal. A style to seize the hearts of visitors.

As we walked further the beauty around us became even more mystical. Every corner felt impossible to pass without taking a photo. We reached a forested area and nearby was a big tree standing at the center. It was joined by two simple wooden houses that refined the natural beauty of the place. At the end of our walk my husband saw a cottage nestled quietly against the mountainside. It offers an ideal site to pause and breathe it all in. It was surrounded by greenery. The tender flow of the river and the embrace of mist we felt a deep sense of gratitude.
Wadi Darbat had gifted us not only adventure and breathtaking landscapes but also a profound serenity, a true haven in Oman’s green heart.

Wow, I wasn't aware that this is what parts of Oman look like. When I imagined Oman, I had desert in mind. Nothing but a huge desert, from east to west and south to north, from the sea to the Saudi boarder. Thanks for sharing this nice trip and changing my view of Oman!

Many people picture Oman as all desert and we were also surprised to learn that parts of Oman. Salalah shows a whole different side of the country, with such beautiful green landscapes, flowing waters and peaceful scenery in a country often imagined as just desert.
