Hooked on Serenity: Fishing & Camping by the Sea in Ghantoot Abu Dhabi

My husband and I decided to spend a night camping at Miki Beach in Ghantoot, Abu Dhabi last December. We had missed the chance to just relax by the beach for how many weeks. So this little escapade felt like the ideal way to reconnect with nature and with each other. The beach was just twenty minutes away from our place.

When we reached the area was serene and untouched. Exactly the kind of peaceful setting we had been hoping for. There were some people around. We could catch the mellow slap of waves and the quiet murmur of the wind. My husband saw an ideal spot for our tent. And together we set it up. Even the simple act of pitching the tent became fun. It was filled with laughter and little moments of teamwork, as we sorted our temporary seaside home.
The condition that day was great. The sky was radiant, clear blue and the turquoise sea calm and inviting. After finishing with the tent we couldn’t resist swimming. We didn’t take photos wanting to fully plunge ourselves in the moment. We were enjoying the water and the togetherness of the experience. The water was cool. We floated and splashed laughing as we felt the tender pull of the waves.

In the afternoon, my husband went fishing. Hoping for a fruitful catch, but luck wasn’t on his side. He stood for hours, patiently waiting and casting his line, growing more tired as the hours passed. The sun was starting to go down it seemed the fish had decided to ignore his bait entirely, yet he didn’t lose heart, quietly planning to try again another day.

As the late afternoon approached, a few families arrived, setting up their tents in other areas of the beach. But our little corner remained tranquil. The sun began its fall. The sky and the sea in blazing hues of orange and red. The colors mirrored the calm water creating an awesome scene.

My husband and I roamed along the beach after our dinner. Enjoying the soothing evening air. He walked into the shallow water. He hoped to find crabs but none came out to play. We returned to our tent letting the tranquil flow of the waves and the mellow evening air wash over us. Enjoying the calm of the seaside together.

Morning transpires with a coldness in the air. We woke to the striking sight of the beach, soaked in soft early light. We went out of our tent and welcomed by the rising sun. The sky was hues with soft pink, orange and gold making a masterpiece that only nature could mould. The quiet morning air and the tender radiance over the sand and sea made everything feel serene. As if the world was sluggishly waking next us. We had a simple breakfast of coffee and bread.

My husband told me we're going fishing. So we went along the rocks to find a good site. We walked further along the rocks until he found a promising spot. He threw his fishing rod and we waited. Just five minutes later, he caught a fish, breaking the quiet wait with a rush of excitement. Our joy overflowed as we celebrated the small victory, smiling and laughing together. It wasn’t just about the catch, but the sharing the moment, feeling present, connected. We're grateful for the simple happiness it brought us both.

I looked for the name of the fish eager to know more about it. I learned it was a kind of seabream. It's commonly known as Faskar or gold seabream. Knowing its name added a unique touch to the experience. It makes the catch feel more meaningful and the moment even more memorable.

We walked around the beach after fishing. We delved into the rocks, took a few photos and enjoyed the surroundings. Every corner felt mystic, the soft sand, the turquoise water, the gentle waves and the subtle scent of the sea air.
Spending a night camping at Ghantoot Beach reminded us of the beauty in simplicity. Being present, being together and letting nature soothe our spirits. We were truly hooked on serenity, where the ocean seemed to rest beside us, leaving us peaceful, refreshed and grateful for such a quiet joy.
