Lake Thingvellir
On my travels in Iceland, I have visited the Thingvellir Lake numerous times. Always on the northern side though where all the main sights are to be seen like plate boundaries where the American and Eurasian plates drift apart 1cm a year. I have a couple of earlier posts about this.
This time however I took a drive on the southern side of the lake and saw a different viewpoint over the Thingvellir National Park.
The lake is the largest lake in Iceland and the temperature remains pretty much unchanged all year around because the lake is fed 90% from underground spring water.
I stopped on the southern shore where a small beach area was and snapped a couple of fast pictures of the view. I would have loved to sit around a bit longer and maybe take a walk but had to drive back to Reykjavik because a flight back was scheduled this evening.
I want to visit Iceland so bad, One of the most beautiful countries in the world in my opinion (At least from what I've seen and heard online :D )
Well, I totally agree. If you can, definitely take a trip there!
I love this pictures you took over here. It is worth admiring
Thanks
Beautiful. We've never quite made it Iceland, would love to visit one of these days though.
I have been to Iceland 4 times and still not getting tired. It's a photographers and nature lovers paradise.
Beautiful site. I also love to see lake views the sound of wind and water just perfect match
Iceland is often very windy but this time it was quite calm, at least in this particular spot.
This lake is really has a great view and also offers mind refreshing sight.
Sure does!
The second photo is a painting!
Hah, yeah looks like one a bit 😀
It will really be great to pay a visit to those types of places actually
For sure.
When did you visit? This is how I imagine summertime looks like over there 😁
Correct, these were taken last year, in July.
These are some gorgeous summer photos. I find it amusing that the lake is named "Thing." Hahahah!
This is how foreign people write it but actuallty its not written like that in Icelandic😅. This is how the name is pronounced. Its Þingvellir. Letter þ is pronounced as th. Stiikk though, yeah its named thing 😁
