Incoming Storm and Camping next to a Bog Lake
Back in August, I went camping with my girlfriend, next to a bog lake, which is actually a really nice spot for swimming and far from civilization. The name of the lake is Tänavjärv and is located in northwestern Estonia. In the middle of the massive boglands. When I say far from civilization, I mean the nearest small town is about 12km away. I really liked the camping spot however...
The weather was, well... a bit extreme. When we arrived, it was nice and calm, but I knew some thunderstorm might be inbound. About an hour after arrival, we quickly set up the tent because it's difficult when the weather turns bad. Having set everything up, I saw some very dark clouds moving in and thunder with it.

We went for a quick swim because the water temperature was about 20 degrees C, very warm. Made a snack on a gas stove and some drinks. Let me tell you, the cinema we had sitting there next to the lake was awesome. Those dark clouds and thunderbolts show was great. We had almost no wind, so it really did feel like a quiet before the storm.
This is taken with a phone.

When the storm finally arrived... Boy oh boy, overhead thunderstorm and heavy downpour for almost two hours. We were able to go out of the tent about 11.30 in the evening to cook some food and make a fire.
Here I have some more photos from the next day. It was very windy as you can probably tell by looking at the water of the lake.

The sandy area was not very long or wide next to the lake, but we went for a walk to see a bit of what's around us.
Even though the water looks very brown and ugly, this bog water is actually very clean and there are no problems drinking it if one wants.
Saw just a lot of wetlands around us, like this. Im going to pin this location on the Pinmapple so you can see for yourself what the area looks like around this lake.

You don't usually see me in any of the photos because I'm always the one behind the camera taking the photos. This time, I was climbing a random tree, and my gf took a photo of me. So here you have it... me in a tree.

If you happen to travel to Estonia and you are specifically looking for a place to go camping, then this is definitely one of the places I can strongly recommend. There are premade fireplaces, wood to burn, a toilet, and tables with a roof overhead. Warm lake to swim in and so on. I don't have photos of the things I just described because we stayed a bit away from these spots and did some wild camping. Many people, even here in Estonia, are not familiar with this spot, so there are not many people, even in the summer. So pack your stuff and go!

Omg a storm while inside a tent in a far away place sounds scary to me. 😅 What if the storm blows away the tent? Where would you go? :/ Good thing you're safe tho! :D
The place does look really peaceful. :D
A little bit scary, but nothing to bad. Phone service is also spotty there.
When tent flies away then we can always retreat to the car hehe.
nice camping
