Exploring Old Ruins and Photo Walk In a River Park

Going back to summer here for a bit. In early June, I tried to find new places to go and have a walk here in Estonia. A place that is not too far from my home. I did find a park in a small city/town named Keila. I discovered that there is also a couple of ruins in the nearby area that I can go and take a look at. I have been to Keila many times but not once in this river park area. It's called a river park because the Keila river goes through it.

From google maps, I looked that there is an old vodka factory that is abandoned. After I arrived there I saw that is it all just overgrown and not much to see.

I peeked inside and it was just a regular shithole, with trash and stuff inside. I don't know much information about this building except it was a vodka factory. The Internet lacks information about that. Here are a couple of more shots taken of it.

Here is another ruin, a bit more well-kept. This is a Keila small castle. It was built at the end of the 14-th century or at the start of the 15-th, not exactly sure. It is thought that the complex was still in use in the 18th century.

You can see a doorway that goes underground that looks like a pit of doom. It's just a cellar that is inaccessible, and full of gravel. It's a shame I would have liked to go down there.

Right next to the castle there is a building that is a Hardju county museum, I have no idea what they are exhibiting there.

A very cool swing.

In the photo below, this is a sacrificial stone and is a cultural monument. I don't know if people really brought sacrifices there. In Estonia, we have 3 sacrificial stones, and this is one of them. Pretty cool that it's surrounded buy huge trees.

I just realized that there are so many leafy trees. This place probably looks absolutely stunning in autumn colors. I really should go there again. I'll see if I manage to go there today, we have beautiful sunny conditions here and it looks like the remaining of this week will be rainy and cloudy so I really should do something today.

I actually went there today. It was beautiful but I was a bit late, most trees have lost too many leaves but I still got some autumn colors. Will make a post sometime in the future about it.

how long did it took to you the entire walk?

in my city we only have 2 smalls parks that can be covered in 20 minutes, nothing very interesting to see, just people playing and exercising

Around 20-30 minutes. Can be done faster ofcourse. If I want a longer walk then I would go on a hiking trail somewhere.

It would be very interesting and peaceful to be able to walk through this park in the middle of all that landscape where you walked. Great place and very cool pictures 🙂
