Arriving to Madeira, Cristo Rei Lookout Point

Okay, it's time to start sharing the adventures of Madeira. Took me some time to sort out and post-process all the photos I took of this 2-week trip there. If you are interested in seeing this small piece of gem island in the Atlantic ocean then tag along because over the next couple of months I regularly post about it Madeira and Porto Santo, the nearby island we also visited.

Arriving to Madeira

I have briefly told you about what happened before but let's do it again, it was a bit of a shitshow.
When we arrived on the island, our one big luggage didn't show up. The airline has lost it in some of the airports we had transited. This meant that we did not have any clothes besides those we were wearing. Lost and found in the airport told us that they had no idea where this luggage is. Well, fucking great! That ruined our mood instantly. They just told us that they will notify us when they find it. Having no idea when and if at all they find this luggage we went on a shopping spree the next day and bought loads of new clothes.
Fortunately, I have travel insurance with my credit card so after I came back from Madeira I got a refund for the essentials and clothes bought. Ultimately that's good because I got many free clothes 😀.

Then there was also a problem finding a local car rental company at the airport where we booked our rental. The place that google maps showed was a car return not pick up and we spent 45 minutes actually finding the right place. After that, we drove to our air-BnB and our host had waited for us for a long time due to the shitshow in the airport.

Having dealt with everything, we still had some daylight left and we went to the first location we actually wanted to see. This is Cristo Rei, a lookout point with a Jesus Christ statue. Located in Ponta do Garajau.

This place has some incredibly beautiful views over the coastline and to the ocean. The statue itself is pretty cool too.

This, in the photo below, is an uninhabited island. We also took a tour there so you will see much more about it soon.

There was a long staircase down to another cliff that stretched out into the ocean. It was easy to walk down, walking up took our breath away.

What you see in the following photo is the capital of Madeira named Funchal. Pretty cool overview of the city from this point of view.

Cacti were everywhere.

Views out to the ocean were also breathtaking from high above.

Writing these posts from Madeira sure makes me miss the warmth and sunshine. Neither of which we get here in Estonia at this time of the year. But... at least we get northern lights! Madeira doesn't.
