The beauty of photography according to perspective 📸

They say that everything depends on the lens through which you look at it, so in photography, everything depends on the perspective of the shot. Depending on the angle chosen to take a photograph we can appreciate the same scene in different ways, and therefore, transmit different messages and emotions.

While perspective is related to the positions, approaches, or angles we capture a scene with the camera, the perception of an image can also change if we resort to editing in post-production. It would be enough to adjust the dimensions of a photograph based on the principles of the law of thirds and the law of the horizon so that the same photographic composition can be appreciated by the eye in several contexts, or from different perspectives.

In this publication, I have chosen two specific scenarios: on the one hand, the monument El Guácharo, located in the town of Caripe, my beloved town, and on the other hand, the Colonial Church of the town of Guanaguana, a historic building that is architectural heritage in the region. Both sites are icons of regional tourism, a must for visitors, and although I'm not a tourist, I can't resist taking pictures of them whenever I travel there.

Based on these two scenarios, in this publication, I share with you several photographic compositions with simple editions (crop / rotate) to show different perspectives in which the object, the landscape, or the background is privileged. In this way, it seems that at certain moments we are closer or farther away, up or down, on one side or the other.

In each composition there is the intention of telling the same story from different points of view; however, it will be the eye of each viewer who will end up judging according to the emotions transmitted by the photographs. That is the beauty of art in its different expressions, each one perceives it in a very particular way.

Dicen que todo depende del cristal con que se mire, así, en la fotografía todo depende de la perspectiva del enfoque. Dependiendo el ángulo elegido para tomar una fotografía podemos apreciar una misma escena de distintas maneras, y por ende, transmitir distintos mensajes y emociones.

Si bien la perspectiva está relacionada con las posiciones, enfoques o ángulos que adoptemos al captar una escena con la cámara, la proyección de una imagen también puede cambiar si en postproducción recurrimos a la edición. Bastaría con ajustar las dimensiones de una fotografía basados en los principios de la ley de los tercios y la del horizonte, para conseguir que una misma composición fotográfica pueda apreciarse al ojo en varios contextos, o en distintas perspectivas.

En esta publicación he elegido dos escenarios puntuales: por un lado, el monumento El Guácharo, ubicado en la población de Caripe, mi pueblo querido, y por el otro, la Iglesia Colonial de la población de Guanaguana, una construcción histórica que es patrimonio arquitectónico en la región. Ambos sitios son iconos del turístico regional, una parada obligada para sus visitantes, y aunque yo no soy una turista más, no puedo evitar fotografiarlos siempre que viajo.

Partiendo de estos dos escenarios, en esta publicación les comparto varias composiciones fotográficas con ediciones sencillas (recortar / rotar) para mostrar distintas perspectivas en las que se privilegia el objeto, el paisaje o el entorno. De esta manera, pareciera que en determinados momentos estamos más cerca o lejos, arriba o abajo, de un lado o del otro.

En cada composición está la intención de contar una misma historia desde diferentes puntos de vista; sin embargo, será el ojo de cada espectador el que termine por juzgar según las emociones que estas les transmitan. He allí la belleza del arte en sus distintas expresiones, cada quién la percibe de una manera muy particular.
