I noticed that none of the customers were riding the elephants. Hopefully this is because it isn't allowed because that is kind of cruel. Looking at them and feeding them is fine, and most of the industry has already transitioned to this ethical approach. Looks like a good day out!

Yes, because I didn't get a chance to capture those scenes, see my second photograph showing a tall staircase through which ticketed visitors could ride the elephant but when I got there, the break was on. Although I never support it, it seems terrible to me.
It is terrible. Hopefully they will stop doing that soon. It went from being popular in Thailand to almost being illegal over the course of about 10 years. Now, almost no companies even offer to ride them but only to hang out, feed them, and get in the water with them to play.
