Dry Stone Walls and Vineyards โ Stone, Vines and the Imperial Will
(Edited)
Hello everyone, good day dear Friends and Photography Lovers ๐๐ธ
On my way back from Bakar, a fishing town on the northern Adriatic, I had the opportunity to see these magnificent vineyards in person for the first time in my life. A little about their history: during the reign of Empress Maria Theresa, the state recognized the value of neglected rocky soil and encouraged its cultivation. In the 18th century, this wonderful empress allowed the inhabitants to turn all of this terrain into vineyards. This created a landscape in which human labor and nature were permanently intertwined. The vineyards that the inhabitants built, often encouraged by imperial reforms and privileges, are a symbol of economic hope. The vine, resistant and adaptable, fit perfectly into the rocky landscape. Wine was not just a product โ it was security, exchange, and a connection to the markets of the wider Monarchy.
In the very middle of my post, you have billboards that I photographed that tell the entire history of this exceptionally beautiful and magnificent place, and in addition to the Croatian language, there is an English translation, so you can read it if you are interested.
So, let's go see this Beauty together!

Today, these dry stone walls and vineyards are more than just agricultural remains. They are a cultural landscape, a testament to the coexistence of man and karst, and a constant reminder that life can be built from even the harshest soil โ if there is knowledge, community, and will.

I took the photos with a Nikon D750, 50mm lens, f/1.8, manual mode, RAW format required, variable ISO and shutter speed. Processing in Photoshop - Camera Raw Filter
And, this is all for Today dear Friends, see You!

Youโre most welcome. Itโs a pleasure
Beautiful photos and a beautiful place. Vineyards are generally a very good subject for photography. Personally, I enjoy photographing hills covered in vines. Best regards.
