My heart is always filled with Joy whenever a family or friend records progress in whatever they do, either business, studies or career, etc it shows that everyone is on a stepping stone to greatness, I shared in this #needlework community recently about the graduation of my younger sister, as with every graduate, there is always that fear of the unknown, and my sister had same fear concerning the next step to take after school, not sure of how things are going to turn out for her, but I assured her to stay calm, and not even lose hope in the journey she hasn't even started, it's understandable for her to feel this way, due to the disturbing situation of my country's economy, there Is hardship in the country, the decline in our currency, and more the inflation is not helping at all, it's almost like it's the wrong time to become an adult.

Last month, she got a call from an old friend who referred her to one of the biggest airports in my country to try her luck in looking for a job, my sister reluctantly gave it a trial submitting her application without any expectations, since one has to have connections before getting that kind of job, and she had none, luckily for her, she was called back for an interview which she passed and got immediate employment, this good news made every one of us happy for our last born sister, since it was unexpected for her to get a job so soon, she had no preparation at all in terms of dressing up to suit her job type, and my sister has never been one to take up her dress sense seriously, so she hurried to me to help her out in changing her wardrobe which was mostly filled with a college student style of clothing, and definitely require a change, and it's my pleasure to help her out.

Tomorrow is Friday and I made her this two-piece outfit for her as a Friday wear, they allow native attires or african print to work on Friday, and I want my sister to look stylish and sharp in her new job, this style will definite achieve that aim, I already promised to help her sort outfits for her new job, this is one of the outfits I will be making for her

The African prints I used are remnants from the dress I made for my mum during Valentine, I had kept them to make this same style for myself, but I guess my sister needs them more than I do.

Materials used

  • African Print
  • Zipper
  • Thread
  • cotton lining

The Making Process

I started by drafting the blouse, which is a basic block with a one-inch ease allowance for both front and back.

Next, I turned them using lining fabric to give a neat finish to the raw edges, after which I joined them by the shoulders

For the sleeves, it's a basic sleeve with one-inch ease as well

I joined the sleeves around both armholes, then joined the blouse by the sides, and added a zipper to the back, the blouse is ready.

The trouser part is a wide-legged trouser, also known as palazzo, I drafted its pattern for both the front and back

Next joined the crotch area, before adding a pocket to the front, then I joined the back crotch area also, next the sides, waistband, and finally the zip is attached to the back.

Would have loved to see how this outfit looked on your sister. I bet it'd be gorgeous 😍.

Back to your story, in Nigeria, people still get a job based on Merit and I'm glad your kid sister proved that. Even with connection one could still not get the job if they are unfit for the position.

In the end it's all about doing your best and living the rest.

Congratulations to your sister, wishing her all the best ❤️🌹

Beautifuuuuul, dearest @glorydee !! Oh, I always wished to have a sister closer to my age who loves sewing - my younger sister and I are not close - it is such a glorious exchange, sewing for close female family members: weaving sisterhood, memories, strength and beauty into clothes that can be gifted... Thank you for sharing this!
