It's the easter season and as with all some celebration seasons, Africans are known to always want a new dress for every celebration, it's how our parents brought us up, I guess we find it hard to stop this tradition, well, why stop it since it is not hurting anyone, rather putting smiles on how faces every celebration time, who doesn't love a new dress by the way?

A few weeks back, I shared a post about this beautiful dress above I made for a friend of mine, out of a fabric she never liked initially, which led her to abandon the fabric for years, well, all of that changed when she saw the finished dress and couldn't stop talking about wearing her elegant dress for the easter Sunday celebration coming up, but her younger sister who is a teenager wasn't so happy because she didn't have a new dress to wear, so I promised to make a simple shift dress out of the leftover of that same fabric for her, my friend was surprised to know that I managed her fabric so well to have a leftover, and thanked me for saving her from the cost of buying another fabric especially with current inflation raiding our country's economy, and I was happy to be of help.

Though the leftovers were not really enough, I had to manage by joining some pieces to the shortage in the pattern.

So I started by drafting a basic gown bodice, adding about 1.5 inches of ease allowance before the seam allowance. It's called a shift dress because it's not a body-fitted dress.

The back side had a shortage like I stated, so I improvised by attaching extra pieces to that area.

Next, I cut out the facing for both the front and back necklines, also cutting a V-shape at the front part of the dress, to make the dress accessible through the neck area, as the dress won't have a zipper

Here, I've used the facing to turn the neckline of the dress, giving it a clean finish after joining the front and back by the shoulder.

Finally, I drafted and cut out basic sleeves which I attached to both armholes of the dress, joining the sides with the seam allowance given, I also hemmed the dress.

Here is the finished look, simple yet elegant right? What I love about this dress is that it's flexible and comfortable to wear, it doesn't have to be for special occasions only, she can also wear this dress to hang out with her friends and it's the perfect dress for a teenager which she is.

Both dresses are really nice. It is a good thing that we still manage to make people beautiful in these hard times.
Well done dear and Happy Good Friday/Easter.
