Discovering Camiguin Island, Philippines.

Hello Travellers,

For the past 3 years, I've lived on a Sail Boat but today I want to highlight my trip to Camiguin Island.

This anchorage was truly beautiful. The water was so clear and pristine, and the rice fields in the background showcased the main source of income for this island. We were actually told by the local coastguard that the Northern Islands of the Philippines have some of the richest soil; therefore, they can harvest most of their food on their own, which is evident here. This island is fortunate enough to have a river, which is great for rice fields. These rice fields are out of the ordinary and are much different from the ones in Bali.

DJI_0438.JPG Rivers and rice fields were only one side of the village; most people live further up in the hills to protect themselves from the sea.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly coast guard stationed there. They came in M-16s and uniforms, which made everything feel more official. But they were all very friendly, and after showing them our paperwork and explaining why we were there, they were happy and left after getting a tour of the boat, obviously. We had already checked out of the Philippines, but we really needed to stop as a big high-pressure system was bringing strong northeasterly winds, which would prevent us from being able to go north to Japan.

DJI_0440.JPG This was the view facing towards the Boat, as you can see the river still flowing really strong even at that point.

I wish we could visit the island; it was truly a hidden gem that you don't get to visit often. I'm sure the locals would be surprised as well, considering they don't have an airstrip, and the only way for tourists to access the island is by ferry, which takes approximately +-5 hours if the currents are in your favor.

I hope you like this type of writing, if you want to see more feel free to check out my profile I have lots more content on the Philippines there.

Paul
