Buttons Anyone?
Hi everyone. I was trying to figure out which Community this post would fit best and I decided the Silver Blogger Community is it. First off, I am definitely premillennial. I'm 66 years old with a cache of silver hair on my head. Second, my topic is about being assiduous and resourceful during this time of our lives so as to keep both physically and mentally fit. So here I am.
Actually this post is not about me but about my wife who is also 66 years old. She's from the northern part of the Philippines, Metro Manila to be exact. We met ages ago when I was studying there. Four years after we married we moved back to the southern part of the country, in Davao City, where I come from. All her friends and relatives were in Manila and she was practically on her own in Davao. But, as the saying goes, "Home is where the heart is." And she treated this place as her home.
I don't think she ever got lonely being here in Davao away from all things and people close to her. She was a full time mom so she always had her hands full. But when the kids grew older, she had a lot of free time and I thought she would get bored. As it turned out I did not have to worry about that. She found so numerous ways to spend her time productively that to this day, she still manages to amaze me with her resourcefulness and creativity.
Let me show you what I mean. A few months ago, I asked her if she had some extra buttons because one came off from the shirt I wanted to wear that day. She said, "Sure." She took out one of her many boxes in her workroom and laid the contents on the table. I was taken aback. I couldn't believe what I saw. Here, see for yourself.

I asked her incredulously why she had such a collection of buttons and where they came from. She said she got them from used clothes she bought at thrift shops or what we call "ukay ukay". These are shops that sell second hand items such as clothes, bags, shoes, toys, books. You name them. They have them. Some of the clothes she bought had fancy and flashy buttons or unusual ones which she took out and replaced with ordinary buttons. She saved the nice ones which I showed you above.
Now while she was choosing a button for my shirt I on impulse segregated the buttons by design and took photos of them just in case I decide to make a post of this in Hive. Here are the pics I took.

Cool huh? Well not as cool as what she did with them. She says it's still a work in progress as she has to do the other side.

Do you like it? Here are a couple more pictures taken on our way to church.

I wouldn't have thought of this, really. But my wife does have a very creative and artistic nature. If I find the time I might do another post about another of her projects. She has a lot. I guess being retired and a silver haired senior doesn't have to be a grind, does it?
Thanks for your time to read my post. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did doing it. Keep safe everyone and may you have a creative and resourceful week ahead.

Hope to see you soon again in our Silver Bloggers Community! Thanks for being awesome!
Thank you very much for your very warm welcome. You hit it right on the head when you said "young at heart" community. I feel I haven't aged since the 90's haha. Thank you for explaining in depth the objectives and goals of the community. Now I know more about it and feels like I've always been a part of it. I will try to contribute more in the future, schedule permitting. I have been busy lately and seldom do Hive but, hopefully, things may get less rigorous and I can post a little bit more. 😊
With pleasure dear friend from far away. I'm stuck in the 80's... hahahaha. And no worries about the regularity, myself i'm writing maybe twice a month in average. 😏
Looking forward to your next story.
What beautiful buttons! @gems.and.cookies I tell you that my sister does the same thing, she removes the buttons from clothes that are deteriorated, she already has hundreds of them, many of which I have used to do some crafts.
Really? That's great. Maybe you can show us some of the crafts you've made. Why not make a post about them. That would be interesting! If ever you decide to just be sure to tag me so I'll know.
Thanks for the visit and the wonderful words. Have a great day 😊
Thanks for the idea you just gave me.
What a cool thing to do, and I am sure your wife is not alone. I know Mrs T does something similar!
That makes for a cool project. Welcome to Silver Bloggers Ruel!
Thank you, Mr. T for the very warm welcome. Maybe you can post some of what Mrs. T does. That would be cool and interesting to read 😊
Agreed, big time... hehehe
Oh wow what a nice collection of buttons. 😍 I am amazed as well.
Ukay ukay lang galing yan. Salamat sa bisita.
