Un día especial [ESP/ENG]

Esta semana un grupo de personas experimentamos un día muy especial. Y digo un grupo de personas, porque para mí en una defensa de trabajo de grado o tesis, aunque pueda ser estresante, sin duda alguna, el cumplir con este requisito es importante para todos los que hacemos vida académica, y por supuesto, para las personas relacionadas con los estudiantes que dan este paso (pareja, familiares y amigos).
Como me he dedicado a la investigación, el universo me ha dado la bendición de poder disfrutar de este día en muchas ocasiones. Ese día, en el cual pese a las dificultades y los desafíos que se enfrentan durante el proceso, se muestra un producto final y un estudiante, ya casi profesional, que es definitivamente diferente a aquel que decidió inscribirse en ese programa de estudios.
Evidentemente, días antes de la defensa los nervios y la ansiedad están apoderándose de la situación y unos minutos antes, el aire se hace como más pesado. Pese a eso, una inhalación profunda da el levare para el inicio de la exposición, donde se relatan con detalle todos los pasos del trabajo, haciendo énfasis en los hallazgos.
Al final, el estudiante responde las preguntas realizadas por un jurado. Ahí aún los nervios están presentes, pero la seguridad de lo que se conoce vence cualquier miedo. Es maravilloso, participar de ese paso tan importante que marca el comienzo de una nueva etapa de cualquier estudiante o profesional.
Las felicitaciones, las sonrisas, los planes futuros y el rememorar todo lo que se ha aprendido. Acompañar a las personas en este proceso en una de las cosas que más disfruto.

This week, a group of people experienced a very special day. And I say a group of people because, for me, a thesis or graduation project defense—although it can be stressful—is undoubtedly an important milestone for all of us who are part of academic life, and, of course, for the people close to the students taking this step (partners, family members, and friends).
As someone dedicated to research, the universe has blessed me with the opportunity to witness this day on many occasions. It is a day when, despite the difficulties and challenges faced throughout the process, a final product is presented, and a student—now almost a professional—emerges transformed, undeniably different from the one who once decided to enroll in that academic program.
Naturally, in the days leading up to the defense, nerves and anxiety tend to take over, and just minutes before it begins, the atmosphere feels heavier. Despite that, a deep breath gives the impulse needed to start the presentation, where every step of the project is narrated in detail, with a particular focus on the findings.
At the end, the student answers the questions posed by the examining committee. At that point, nerves are still present, but the confidence in what has been learned overcomes any fear. It is truly wonderful to be part of such a significant milestone, one that marks the beginning of a new stage in the life of any student or professional.
The congratulations, the smiles, the future plans, and the reflection on everything that has been learned… Accompanying people through this process is one of the things I enjoy the most.
