Senderismo entre la naturaleza de El Pao de Zárate, Aragua - Venezuela / Hiking among the nature of El Pao de Zárate, Aragua - Venezuela

Saludos hivers y bienvenidos a mi blog. Los grupos de senderismo que hay en mi ciudad organizan caminatas con mucha frecuencia, mi hermana y yo siempre estamos atentas porque no sólo nos gusta caminar al aire libre sino que también disfrutamos conocer lugares nuevos. Muchas veces repiten paseos a los que ya hemos ido pero siempre hay nuevas rutas por conocer.

Hello hivers and welcome to my blog. The hiking groups in my city organize walks very frequently, my sister and I are always attentive because we not only like walking outdoors but we also enjoy discovering new places. Many times they repeat walks that we have already gone to but there are always new routes to discover.

En octubre nos enteramos de una caminata hacia el sector de El Pao, este pueblo está a más o menos una hora de distancia de La Victoria (en auto), la ciudad donde vivo. Siempre hemos oído hablar de él pero nunca habíamos ido así que era una excelente oportunidad para conocer esta zona rural.

In October we found out about a walk to the El Pao sector, this village is about an hour away from La Victoria (by car), the city where I live. We have always heard about it but we had never been so it was an excellent opportunity to get to know this rural area.

La caminata iba a empezar a las 7 en Patalante, sector de Guacamaya, así que los participantes nos fuimos hasta allá en unos autobuses con los que lo organizadores se habían puesto de acuerdo. Por supuesto, y para no perder la costumbre, empezamos como 15 minutos más tarde 🙄🤣🤷🏻‍♀️, porque faltaba gente de la logística.

The walk was going to start at 7 in Patalante, Guacamaya sector, so the participants went there in buses with which the organizers had agreed. Of course, and not to lose custom, we started as 15 minutes later 🙄🤣🤷🏻‍♀️, because people of logistics were missing.

La caminata de 13 kms era por la carretera, o sea, por asfalto, el primer tramo del recorrido era en subida. La fría brisa mañanera nos acariciaba el rostro mientras poco a poco iban apareciendo los primeros rayos del sol y nos iban rodeando los verdes paisajes del lugar.

The 13 kms walk was along the road, that is, on asphalt, the first section of the route was uphill. The cold morning breeze caressed our faces while little by little the first rays of the sun appeared and the green landscapes of the place surrounded us.

Aunque caminábamos sobre el asfalto, estábamos rodeados por árboles, mucha vegetación y por montañas espectacularmente verdes gracias a la larga temporada de lluvias que tuvimos el año pasado, de vez en cuando pasaba alguna moto o algún auto pero en general no hay casi tránsito en esta zona ya que es un sector rural y no hay muchos habitantes. Los que no tienen moto ni auto usan el transporte público.

Although we were walking on the asphalt, we were surrounded by trees, a lot of vegetation and spectacularly green mountains thanks to the long rainy season we had last year, from time to time a motorcycle or a car passed by but in general there was almost no traffic in this area since it's a rural sector and there aren't many inhabitants. Those who don't have a motorcycle or car use public transportation.

Mientras caminábamos vi esta hermosa oruga en el medio del camino, tomé un palito y la llevé hasta la vegetación para que no la fueran a pisar / The insects chase me hehehe. Poco más de media hora después de haber empezado la caminata nos encontramos con un mirador, varios nos detuvimos a tomarnos una foto, mi hermana iba más adelantada que yo, cosa frecuente, puesto que yo soy muy observadora y me distraigo con cualquier insecto, ave, flor u otras cosas que consiga en el camino jajaja, creo que iba demasiado concentrada porque cuando más adelante la alcancé y le dije del mirador me dijo que dónde fue eso, que ni lo vió 😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️.

A little more than half an hour after starting the walk we found a viewpoint, several of us stopped to take a photo, my sister was ahead of me, which is often the case, since I am very observant and get distracted by any insect, bird, flower or other things I get along the way hahaha, I think she was too focused because when I later caught up with her and told her about the viewpoint she told me where that was, she didn't even see it 😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️.

Llevábamos un poquito más de una hora caminando y nos encontramos con el punto de hidratación que los organizadores habían puesto en una de las curvas del camino, había agua y frutas, en este caso, patilla 🍉 (sandía) y cambur 🍌 (banana), yo no salgo ni a la esquina sin agua jajaja, así que ya tenía pero si agarré frutas 😋.

We had been walking for a little over an hour and we found the hydration point that the organizers had placed on one of the curves of the path, there was water and fruits, in this case, watermelon 🍉 and bananas 🍌, I don't even go out to the corner without water hahaha, so I already had but I did grab fruit 😋.

El grupo de más o menos 100 personas se había dispersado, algunos iban muy adelantados, otros a la mitad y muchos iban a un paso más lento y se habían quedado atrás, cada quien va a su ritmo, esto no era una competencia, lo importante es disfrutar de la actividad y de las bellezas que nos rodean 🏞️. Una de las cosas que más disfruto cuando estoy en caminatas o haciendo senderismo es de los sonidos de la naturaleza 🍃🐦🦗🐒🦜🐸.

The group of more or less 100 people had dispersed, some were very far ahead, others halfway and many were at a slower pace and had been left behind, everyone goes at their own pace, this was not a competition, the important thing it's enjoying the activity and the beauties that surround us 🏞️. One of the things I enjoy most when I'm on walks or hiking is the sounds of nature 🍃🐦🦗🐒🦜🐸.

Poco a poco iba apareciendo alguna que otra casa en la orilla del camino, lo que nos indicaba que estábamos acercándonos al Pao.

Little by little, the odd house appeared on the edge of the road, which told us that we were approaching the Pao.

En esta zona se trabaja mucho la agricultura y en los patios de todas las casas se pueden ver árboles frutales, sembradíos de vegetales, gallinas y hasta vacas.

A lot of agriculture is done in this area and in the patios of all the houses you can see fruit trees, vegetable fields, chickens and even cows.

El sector de El Pao está ubicado en el sur del estado Aragua. En la época de la colonia fue una hacienda que perteneció a varios dueños hasta que fue adquirida por Don Gerónimo Zárate, de quién el pueblo recibe su nombre actual. Posteriormente, Don Gerónimo se la vende a Luis Ernesto Branger. Ya a mediados del siglo XX, entre 1950 y 1960, toda la población de la zona trabajaba en contratos con la hacienda bajo pésimas condiciones de trabajo. Por otra parte, los que querían trabajar la agricultura por cuenta propia podían hacerlo pero solamente en las partes altas del cerro ya que las planicies y las tierras planas estaban destinadas sólo para los hacendados.

The El Pao sector is located in the south of the Aragua state. In colonial times it was a hacienda that belonged to several owners until it was acquired by Don Gerónimo Zárate, from whom the village receives its current name. Later, Don Gerónimo sold it to Luis Ernesto Branger. Already in the middle of the 20th century, between 1950 and 1960, the entire population of the area worked under contracts with the hacienda under terrible working conditions. On the other hand, those who wanted to work in agriculture on their own could do so but only in the upper parts of the hill since the plains and flat lands were intended only for the landowners.

Esta desfavorable situación hizo que en 1958 la población decidiera organizararse y crear una liga campesina para luchar por los derechos y mejores condiciones de trabajo para la comunidad de El Pao de Zárate. En 1960 un grupo de habitantes de la zona, que no contaba con la aprobación unánime, decidió apoderase de parte del sector que hoy es conocido como La Candelaria como protesta en vista que la mayoría de las personas no tenían un lugar digno donde vivir. A partir de ahí, se fueron dividiendo y subdividiendo más sectores hasta llegar a la actualidad.

This unfavorable situation made the population decide in 1958 to organize and create a peasant league to fight for rights and better working conditions for the community of El Pao de Zárate. In 1960, a group of residents of the area, who didn't have unanimous approval, decided to take over part of the sector that is today known as La Candelaria, as a protest given that the majority of people didn't have a decent place to live. From there, more sectors were divided and subdivided until reaching the present day.

El sector principal y el más grande es La Candelaria, algunos otros son La Ceiba, Curazao, San Francisco, El Guaipo, Santa Lucía, Los Naranjos, Las Carolinas, Los Pozos, Santa Rosa, El Toro, Curujujúl, La Rubiera y Agua Blanca, que es hasta donde llegaba nuestra caminata. El Pao de Zárate pertenece al mismo municipio que La Victoria, sin embargo, aunque tiene el mayor territorio de las seis parroquias que conforman este municipio, es el que tiene el menor número de habitantes.

The main and largest sector is La Candelaria, some others are La Ceiba, Curacao, San Francisco, El Guaipó, Santa Lucía, Los Naranjos, Las Carolinas, Los Pozos, Santa Rosa, El Toro, Curujujúl, La Rubiera and Agua Blanca, which is where our walk ended. El Pao de Zárate belongs to the same municipality as La Victoria, however, although it has the largest territory of the six parishes that make up this municipality, it's the one with the smallest number of inhabitants.

Un derrumbe en nuestra ruta / A landslide on our route

Tenía media hora caminando sola en el trayecto porque Virginia, la amiga de mi hermana, y su amiga, que estaba haciendo la caminata junto a su hija de 7 años, se habían quedado muy atrás, de repente apareció un niño de unos 11 años y me preguntó si había visto a un señor con una franela verde fosforescente, era su papá, le dije que no y seguimos caminando y conversando, era un niño muy conversador así que aproveché y le pregunté sobre el pueblo. Me dijo que tenía que caminar media hora para llegar a la escuela, que ese lugar era muy tranquilo y que el pueblo del Pao de Zárate quedaba más lejos que Agua Blanca (donde terminaba la caminata). Sin embargo, lo más divertido fue todas las cosas que me contó de su familia, me habló de los ronquidos de su papá y de su hermano, que sufría de insomnio y casi nunca podía dormir en las noches 😳, entre otras muchas cosas jajaja, daba gusto escucharlo porque hablaba como un viejito.

I had been walking alone for half an hour on the journey because Virginia, my sister's friend, and her friend, who was doing the walk with her 7-year-old daughter, had been left far behind, suddenly a boy of about 11 years old appeared and he asked me if I had seen a man with a fluorescent green flannel, it was his father, I told him no and we continued walking and talking, he was a very talkative child so I took advantage and asked him about the village. He told me that he had to walk half an hour to get to school, that that place was very quiet and that the town of Pao de Zárate was further away than Agua Blanca (where the walk ended). However, the funniest thing was all the things he told me about his family, he told me about his dad's and his brother's snoring, that he had insomnia and could almost never sleep at night 😳, among many other things hahaha, it was a pleasure to listen to him because he spoke like an old man.

Finalmente llegamos al sector Agua Blanca, se escuchaba la música y los gritos de los que se estaban lanzando al río jajaja, de lejos pude ver a mi hermana que ya estaba allá descansando. Santiago, mi breve compañero de ruta siguió caminando porque aún le faltaba bastante para llegar a la bodega donde le iba a comprar las pastillas para el dolor de cabeza a su mamá.

Finally we arrived at the Agua Blanca sector, we could hear the music and the screams of those who were jumping into the river hahaha, from afar I could see my sister who was already there resting. Santiago, my brief traveling companion, continued walking because he still had a long way to go before reaching the store where he was going to buy headache pills for his mother.

En Venezuela es típico comer sanchocho (sopa de pollo, carne de res, cochino y vegetales) a leña cerca de los ríos y ya la gente del restaurante estaba preparando el fuego para montar las ollas / In Venezuela it's typical to eat sanchocho (chicken, beef, pork and vegetable soup) over firewood near the rivers and the people at the restaurant were already preparing the fire to set up the pots

A un lado del camino hay un restaurante y varios puestos de comida y muchos de los caminantes ya se estaban tomando sus cervezas jajaja. Cuando mi hermana llegó estaban repartiendo tizana (jugo con pedazos de fruta 🍉🍌🍍) a los participantes, fue incapaz de pedir una y guardarla para mí 🙄😒, y después cuando yo llegué tuvo el descaro de decirme "mira lo que nos dieron 🥤, ve para allá a buscar la tuya", ¿Cuál? Si ya no había nada 🤨🙄🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️, bueno, total que yo no soy muy amante de las tizanas. Descansamos un rato mientras veíamos a los niños que se zambillian en el río saltando desde el puente y luego bajamos hasta la otra parte del río que no es profunda a comer y tomar fotos del lugar.

On one side of the road there is a restaurant and several food stalls and many of the walkers were already drinking their beers hahaha. When my sister arrived they were handing out tizana (juice with pieces of fruit 🍉🍌🍍) to the participants, she was incapable of asking for one and keeping it for me 🙄😒, and then when I arrived she had the nerve to tell me "look what they gave us 🥤, go over there and get yours", Which one? If there was nothing already 🤨🙄🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️, well, anyway, I'm not a big fan of tizanas. We rested for a while while we watched the children diving into the river by jumping from the bridge and then we went down to the other part of the river that is not deep to eat and take photos of the place.

Mientras estábamos abajo vimos que Virginia, la amiga de mi hermana había llegado, nos dijo que no iba a bajar porque le daba miedo resbalarse ya que se torció el tobillo, lo tenía hinchado y le dolía, nosotras nos quedamos un rato más abajo y después subimos.

While we were down we saw that Virginia, my sister's friend had arrived, she told us that she was not going to go down because she was afraid of slipping since she sprained her ankle, her ankle was swollen and it hurt, we stayed down for a while and then went up.

Esta gallina y su pollito nos mantuvieron entretenidas un buen rato, estábamos fascinadas viéndolos buscar comida. Adorables 🐔🐤☺️ / This hen and her chick kept us entertained for a long time, we were fascinated watching them search for food. Adorable 🐔🐤☺️

En el restaurante el ambiente estaba muy alegre, había participantes bailando, bebiendo cerveza, comiendo y otros simplemente viendo a los que bailaban 😂😂😂. Mientras tanto, los niños y jóvenes de la zona seguían lanzándose al río. En el Pao también se encuentran dos quebradas, Quebrada El volcán y quebrada Agua Blanca, así mismo hay una cueva de cuarzo y una de guano así que este lugar tiene muchas atracciones naturales para ofrecer a los turistas que lo visitan.

In the restaurant the atmosphere was very happy, there were participants dancing, drinking beer, eating and others simply watching those who danced 😂😂😂. Meanwhile, children and young people in the area continued jumping into the river. In El Pao there are also two streams, Quebrada El Volcán and Quebrada Agua Blanca. There is also a quartz cave and a guano cave, so this place has many natural attractions to offer tourists who visit it.

Cada vez que estoy en zonas rurales donde la gente vive entre la naturaleza disfruto de ver como crecen los niños, aquí están casi todo el día jugando al aire libre, nadando en el río, aprendiendo a sembrar y a cosechar, compartiendo con sus amigos y con los animales, caminando descalzos y yendo a sus casas a pie o en bicicleta, en pocas palabras, aprovechan al máximo el ser niños, al contrario de la mayoría de los niños que están en las ciudades y que ahora sólo quieren estar viendo TV, el celular o jugar videojuegos 😕😒, algo que me parece realmente lamentable y muy triste 😢😞.

Every time I am in rural areas where people live among nature I enjoy seeing how the children grow, here they are almost all day playing outdoors, swimming in the river, learning to plant and harvest, sharing with their friends and with animals, walking barefoot and going home on foot or by bicycle, in short, make the most of being children, unlike the majority of children who are in the cities and who now only want to be watching TV, the cell phone or playing video games 😕😒, something that seems really regrettable and very sad to me 😢😞.

Eran la una de la tarde y después de haber caminado, disfrutado de los hermosos paisajes y de haber pasado un día diferente y divertido, ya era hora de regresar a casa. Los organizadores nos habían garantizado que habría transporte público para bajar hasta La Victoria, pero 🙄, bueno, adivinaron jajaja, los que me siguen saben que casi siempre pasa algo en nuestros paseos 😬🥴😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️, y por supuesto, esta no iba a ser la excepción 😒.

It was one in the afternoon and after having walked, enjoyed the beautiful landscapes and having spent a different and fun day, it was time to return home. The organizers had guaranteed us that there would be public transportation to go down to La Victoria, but 🙄, well, you guessed it hahaha, those who follow me know that something almost always happens on our walks 😬🥴😂😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️, and of course, this wasn't going to be the exception 😒.

No sé si fue porque era domingo pero los autobuses tardaron en llegar y cuando llegaron y nos montamos nos hicieron esperar como 15 o 20 minutos más porque supuestamente los tres autobuses tenían que bajar juntos 🙄, había mucha gente molesta que ya quería irse, tenían otras cosas que hacer, estaban cansados o hambrientos como nosotras jajaja. A los organizadores creo que esto no les importó mucho porque estaban casi todos bailando y bebiendo 💃🏻🕺🏻🍻🤷🏻‍♀️.

I don't know if it was because it was Sunday but the buses took a while to arrive and when they arrived and we got on they made us wait for about 15 or 20 more minutes because supposedly the three buses had to get off together 🙄, there were a lot of upset people who already wanted to leave, they had other things to do, they were tired or hungry like us hahaha. I think the organizers didn't care much about this because almost everyone was dancing and drinking 💃🏻🕺🏻🍻🤷🏻‍♀️.

Bueno amigos, afortunadamente al final todo salió bien y cada quien llegó a su casa con algo nuevo que contar y con la satisfacción de haber pasado un día diferente haciendo ejercicio y disfrutando de la naturaleza. Muchas gracias por su tiempo. Salud y felicidad infinitas para todos 🌞🍀.
