Hello hivers. Collecting things is an activity that for some people is simple entertainment and fun while for others it's a way of living and even earning large sums of money. Everything will depend on what is collected and the interest that is dedicated to this hobby.

Saludos hivers. Coleccionar cosas es una actividad que para algunos es simple entretenimiento y diversión mientras que para otros es una forma de vivir y hasta de ganar grandes sumas de dinero. Todo dependerá de qué se coleccione y del interés que se le dedique a este pasatiempo.

In the world of collecting, one of the most popular items are stamps. Stamps are not only used to pay the amount of a letter, an envelope or a package that you want to send to other parts of the country or abroad, they are also like small postcards that have photos, designs and works of art printed on them that highlight a part of the culture, history, geography, flora, fauna and idiosyncrasy of a country. Collecting stamps is a very popular activity among children and adults because they are very small items that don't require much space and are relatively easy to obtain. The love for this hobby is called philately.

En el mundo del coleccionismo, uno de los artículos más populares son las estampillas. Las estampillas no solamente sirven para pagar el importe de una carta, un sobre o un paquete que se desee enviar a otras partes del país o al extranjero, son también como pequeñas postales que traen impreso sobre ellas fotos, diseños y obras de arte que resaltan una parte de la cultura, la historia, la geografía, la flora, la fauna y la identidad de un país. Coleccionar estampillas es una actividad muy popular entre niños y adultos porque son artículos pequeños que no necesitan mucho espacio y son relativamente fáciles de conseguir. La afición por este pasatiempo se llama filatelia.

I started collecting stamps for fun when my family moved from Greece (my parents' country of origin) to Venezuela (my country of birth). My sister and I wrote letters to our cousins and every time we received letters from them, I thought it was a good idea to save the stamps, in one bag I put the ones from the collection and in another the ones that were repeated.

Empecé a coleccionar estampillas por pura diversión cuando mi familia se mudó de Grecia (país de origen de mis padres), para Venezuela (mi país de nacimiento). Mi hermana y yo les escribíamos cartas a nuestros primos y primas y cada vez que nos llegaban cartas de ellos a mi me pareció buena idea guardar las estampillas, en una bolsita ponía las de la colección y en otra las que estaban repetidas.

It all started as a childhood hobby, I had no idea about the rules or recommendations to follow when collecting stamps hahaha so I started carefully cutting them out of the envelopes and putting them in a bag. Not all of these stamps are mine, many have been given to me by other relatives, others I got in old envelopes from my mother, my father and uncles and there are even some that I stole hahaha, well, maybe those people were going to throw away those envelopes so let's say I rescued those poor stamps from ending up in the trash 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Todo empezó como un pasatiempo infantil, yo no tenía idea sobre las reglas o recomendaciones a seguir para coleccionar estampillas jajaja así que empecé a recortarlas con cuidado de los sobres y las iba guardando en una bolsita. No todas estas estampillas son mías, muchas me las han regalado otros familiares, otras las conseguí en sobres viejos de mi mamá, mi papá y de tíos e incluso hay algunas que me las robé jajaja, bueno, igual esa gente iba a botar esos sobres así que digamos que rescaté esas pobres estampillas de terminar en la basura 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The process of printing stamps is quite complex, it begins in the administration of the post office with the receipt of suggestions for new designs, these can come from individuals, public institutions, private institutions, associations, etc. After planning the series that will be issued and the number of stamps that will be printed, the post office administration will select the artists who will make the designs. They are made in a format four times larger, which is subsequently reduced to the size of the stamp.

El proceso de impresión de las estampillas es bastante complejo, empieza en la administración de la oficina postal con la recepción de sugerencias para los nuevos diseños, estas pueden venir tanto de particulares, de instituciones públicas, privadas, asociaciones, etc. Luego de planificar las series que serán emitidas y la cantidad de estampillas que se imprimirán, la administración de la oficina postal seleccionará a los artistas que harán los diseños, los mismos son hechos en un formato cuatro veces mayor, que posteriormente se reduce al tamaño de la estampilla.

The stamp printing method may vary depending on the country, the style you want to give to the stamp, the cost, etc. The printing techniques or methods can be: typography, gravure, lithography, photoengraving and stamping or die-cutting.

Next, my collection of stamps from Spain 🇪🇸, I had a Spanish friend with whom I exchanged correspondence so I started collecting those stamps, too, my sister also gave me some because she also has a friend who lives there. It's the second country from which I have the most stamps, 61 in total.

The basic information that every stamp must have is: country of origin (with the exception of the United Kingdom), face or postage value, information related to the design or image it presents, name of the designer and date of issue, although this isn't always included. By order of the Universal Postal Union, and regardless of the language of the issuing country, all stamps that are intended for international circulation must have the name of the country printed in the Latin alphabet. This rule doesn't apply to the United Kingdom as it's the first country to issue stamps.

La información básica que toda estampilla o sello debe tener es: país de origen (a excepción del Reino Unido), valor facial o de franqueo, información relativa al diseño o imagen que presenta, nombre del diseñador y fecha de emisión, aunque esta última no siempre es incluída. Por orden de la Unión Postal Universal, e independientemente del idioma del país emisor, todas las estampillas o sellos que estén destinados para circulación internacional, deben tener impreso el nombre del país en alfabeto latino. The first stamp was issued in the United Kingdom in 1840 and within a few years it had been adopted by many other countries around the world. The hobby of collecting stamps emerged a few years later, stamps offered a window of contact with other countries thanks to their designs full of art and history, the pedagogical contribution of this hobby was so well received that in 1855, philately was included in the regulations of British schools as a sport and culture subject.

La primera estampilla fue emitida en el Reino Unido en 1840 y en pocos años ya había sido adaptado por muchos otros países en todo el mundo. The ideal way to collect stamps is in special notebooks that have a kind of small pockets where the stamps are placed according to their design. It's valid to collect both completely new and used stamps, the important thing is that they are in good condition and with their complete serrated edge. When I started collecting mine I didn't know anything about this hahaha, I glued mine on colored cardboard that I then put into the pages of a photo block.

La manera ideal de coleccionar las estampillas es en cuadernos especiales que traen una especie de pequeños bolsillos donde se van poniendo las estampillas según su diseño. Es válido coleccionar tanto estampillas totalmente nuevas como usadas, lo importante es que estén en buenas condiciones y con su borde dentado completo. Cuando yo empecé a coleccionar las mías no sabía nada de esto jajaja, las mías las fuí pegando en cartulinas de colores que luego metía en los folios de un block para fotos.

From the moment the first stamp was issued, the main attraction of these small works of art has been their designs. Although there are some common ones, with inconspicuous images and drawings, many of them are really beautiful and their pictorial and artistic value is irresistible for collectors. Like every collector, (although I'm not one in such a serious and professional way), I also have my favorite stamps hehehe and I'll show them to you below.

Desde el momento en que se emitió la primera estampilla el principal atractivo de estas pequeñas obras de arte han sido sus diseños, si bien las hay comunes, con imágenes y dibujos poco llamativos, muchas de ellas son realmente hermosas y su valor pictórico y artístico es irresistible para los coleccionistas. Como todo coleccionista, (aunque yo no lo sea de manera tan seria y profesional), yo también tengo mis estampillas favoritas jejeje y se las muestro a continuación.

Since I was little I liked to listen to and read Aesop's fables with morals endings and I continue to be an admirer of this great storyteller from ancient Greece. This stamp is my favorite of all my collection because it depicts a scene from an Aesop's fables, The Lion and the Deer / Desde que era pequeña me gustaba escuchar y leer las fábulas con moraleja de Esopo y sigo siendo una admiradora de este gran cuentista de la antigua Grecia. This stamp is based on a child's drawing, and what more creative, surreal and beautiful than children's drawings, it's part of a series called, "The future through the eyes of children." I find it interesting that they decided to put it on stamps. Dalí is one of my favorite painters, I wish I had all the stamps that reproduce his works, I only have this one, "Soft Self-Portrait" and "The Bread Basket" 🤷🏻‍♀️ / Dalí es uno de mis pintores favoritos, ojalá tuviese todas las estampillas que reproducen sus obras, sólo tengo esta, "Autorretrato blando" y la de "La cesta de pan" 🤷🏻‍♀️

It may seem like a very simple stamp but I like its details and the beautiful combination of those three colors / Puede parecer una estampilla muy sencilla pero me gustan sus detalles y la linda combinación de esos tres colores

This stamp is one of the largest in my collection and what catches my attention the most about it is its texture since I can feel the entire design when I run my fingers over it, I presume that it was made with the gravure technique / Esta estampilla es una de las más grandes de mi colección y lo que más me llama la atención de ella es su textura ya que puedo sentir todo el diseño cuando paso mis dedos por encima, presumo que fue hecha con la técnica del huecograbado
