Saludos hivers. En La Victoria (Edo. Aragua), hay un lugar que es un icono cuando hablamos de eventos culturales, La Casa de la Cultura, "Alsacia Álvarez". Después de estar muchos años esperando ser restaurada tanto externa como internamente, finalmente el año pasado empezaron los trabajos de mantenimiento, remodelación y restauración de todos sus espacios.

Hello hivers. In La Victoria (Aragua state), there is a place that is an icon when we talk about cultural events, La Casa de la Cultura (House of culture), "Alsacia Alvarez". After spending many years waiting to be restored both externally and internally, last year the maintenance, remodeling, and restoration work on all its spaces finally began.

La Casa de la Cultura "Alsacia Álvarez" fue totalmente restaurada y reinagurada a mediados del mes pasado y en la misma ya se han realizado varios actos culturales. Coincidiendo con el inicio del Festival de teatro progresista que llegó al país y que reúne a grupos de teatro de todo el mundo, nos enteramos que habría una presentación en la Casa de La Cultura el viernes 22 de marzo, así que decidimos ir a ver la obra de teatro y aprovechar para ver cómo quedó la casa.

The "Alsacia Alvarez" House of Culture was completely restored and reopened in the middle of last month and several cultural events have already been held there. Coinciding with the beginning of the Progressive Theater Festival that arrived in the country and that brings together theater groups from all over the world, we found out that there would be a presentation at the Casa de la Cultura on Friday, March 22, so we decided to go see the play and take the opportunity to see how the house turned out.

La Casa de La Cultura fue construída por el coronel Francisco Linares Alcántara Estévez, hijo del general Francisco Linares Alcántara, quien fue presidente de Venezuela entre 1877-1878, siendo su mandato de solamente un año y nueve meses debido a que murió de una neumonía. Su hijo, un jóven que participó en la Revolución libertadora al lado del general Cipriano Castro construyó esta casa para su uso personal.

The House of Culture was built by Colonel Francisco Linares Alcántara Estévez, son of General Francisco Linares Alcántara, who was president of Venezuela between 1877-1878, his term being only one year and nine months because he died of pneumonia. His son, a young man who participated in the liberating Revolution alongside General Cipriano Castro, built this house for his personal use.

La casa está ubicada en una esquina del casco histórico de La Victoria, justo al frente de lado Sur de la plaza Ribas. Para su construcción original se usaron las técnicas tradicionales de la época, paredes y muros de tierra, estructuras de madera en los techados y cuatro aguas, tendido de caña amarga y tejas criollas de arcilla, ventanas y puertas de madera y pisos de baldosas de cemento decorados. Su arquitectura es de estilo republicano de principios del siglo XX, muy influenciado por la arquitectura clásica griega y romana, esta casa se construyó en 1904.

The house is located in a corner of the historic center of La Victoria, right in front of the south side of Plaza Ribas. For its original construction, traditional techniques of the time were used: earthen walls, wooden structures on the roofs and hips, laying of bitter cane and Creole clay tiles, wooden windows and doors, and cement tile floors decorated. Its architecture is in the Republican style from the beginning of the 20th century, highly influenced by classical Greek and Roman architecture, this house was built in 1904.

El coronel Linares Alcántara vivió aquí hasta su exilio en 1913, su casa fue adquirida por el coronel Arcángel Mora, jefe militar de La Victoria y posteriormente sirvió como vivienda de varias familias honorables de la época. Luego fue entregada al párroco Dr. Ángel Pérez Cisneros, fundador del Colegio Padre Machado. Entre 1916 y 1958 fue sede del Liceo José Félix Ribas. Su función como Casa de La Cultura empezó en 1964.

Colonel Linares Alcántara lived here until his exile in 1913, his house was acquired by Colonel Arcángel Mora, military chief of La Victoria, and later it served as the home of several honorable families of the time. Then it was handed over to the parish priest Dr. Ángel Pérez Cisneros, founder of the Padre Machado School. Between 1916 and 1958 it was home to the José Félix Ribas High School. Its function as a house of culture began in 1964.

Esta casa está dividida en dos partes, una cuenta con varios espacios como son, una sala para exposiciones de pintura, una sala para danza y ballet, dos áreas de descanso, baños y camerinos, también tiene un patio central, una oficina para el personal administrativo y otros cuartos de uso privado, la otra parte de la casa es el auditorio donde se realizan obras de teatro, conciertos, actos escolares, etc.

This house is divided into two parts, one has several spaces such as a room for painting exhibitions, a room for dance and ballet, two rest areas, bathrooms and dressing rooms, it also has a central patio, an office for administrative staff and other rooms for private use, the other part of the house is the auditorium where plays, concerts, school events, etc. are held.

En la galería había algunas pinturas en exposición, yo aproveché para tomar algunas fotos del espacio y desde una de las ventanas. Aparte de las clases de danza y ballet también dictan clases de pintura, música y teatro.

In the gallery there were some paintings on display, I took the opportunity to take some photos of the space and from one of the windows. Apart from dance and ballet classes, they also teach painting, music and theater classes.

Lo que más me gusta de esta casa es su patio central, tiene un hermoso piso de baldosas de la época, recibe iluminación natural todo el día y hasta han sembrado un viñedo que de seguro se verá hermoso en ese lugar cuando esté más crecido y frondoso 🍇.

What I like most about this house is its central patio, it has a beautiful period tile floor, it receives natural lighting all day and they have even planted a vineyard that will surely look beautiful in that place when it is more grown and lush. 🍇.

La obra de teatro estaba pautada para las 4 de la tarde, mi hermana y yo llegamos a las 3:30 así que mientras esperábamos que abrieran el auditorio nos encontramos con muchos amigos y conocidos y nos pusimos a conversar debajo de la sombra de unos de los muchos árboles que están en la Plaza Ribas. Hacia bastante calor pero también había mucha brisa.

The play was scheduled for 4 in the afternoon, my sister and I arrived at 3:30 so while we were waiting for the auditorium to open we met many friends and people we know and we started talking under the shade of some of the the many trees that are in Plaza Ribas. It was quite hot but there was also a lot of breeze.

Finalmente a las 5 pm abrieron las puertas del auditorio y poco a poco fuimos pasando a la sala. La remodelación quedó muy bonita, el techo y las paredes, que antes estaban en malas condiciones, ahora lucen como nuevos, la iluminación es muy moderna y el aire acondicionado, que tenía muchos años dañado, ahora funciona perfectamente, no sé si fue reparado o si instalaron uno nuevo. Esta sala es relativamente pequeña, creo que para unas 150 o 200 personas más o menos.

Finally at 5 pm they opened the doors to the auditorium and little by little we moved into the room. The remodeling turned out very nice, the ceiling and walls, which were previously in poor condition, now look like new, the lighting is very modern and the air conditioning, which had been damaged for many years, now works perfectly, I don't know if it was repaired or if they installed a new one. This room is relatively small, I think for about 150 or 200 people or so.

El escenario ahora es un poquito más amplio, lo pintaron y le agregaron una pequeña pasarela al frente y tiene una torre de juego de luces renovada. También ampliaron el espacio donde están las escaleras para subir a la tarima.

The stage is now a little larger, they painted it and added a small walkway in front and it has a renovated light show tower. They also expanded the space where the stairs are to go up to the platform.

Ya teníamos más de hora y media esperando 🙄😒, la impuntualidad de los horarios es algo que lamentablemente suele ser muy frecuente aquí en Venezuela, pero finalmente, las luces se apagaron y la obra de teatro iba a empezar.

We already had more than an hour and a half waiting 🙄😒, late schedules are something that is unfortunately very common here in Venezuela, but finally, the lights went out and the play was going to begin.

La actriz se encargaba de la musicalización de la obra, música instrumental y electrónica acorde a las situaciones por las que va pasando el protagonista. Debo decir que la música seleccionada le daba mucha fuerza al guión, era como un actor más que intensificaba las emociones y lo que querían transmitir al público / An actress was in charge of the musicalization of the play, instrumental and electronic music according to the situations that the protagonist is going through. I must say that the music selected gave a lot of strength to the script, it was like another actor that intensified the emotions and what they wanted to convey to the audience

El actor se desenvolvió en un excelente español de marcado acento italiano 🇮🇹 / The actor spoke excellent Spanish with a marked Italian accent 🇮🇹

La interpretación de este personaje es muy exigente físicamente jajaja 🥴🥵, el protagonista se tiraba al piso, se retorcía, saltaba, hacia malabares y gritaba, al terminar la función estaba todos sucio y sudado jajaja / The interpretation of this character is very physically demanding hahaha 🥴🥵, the protagonist threw himself on the floor, writhed, jumped, juggled and screamed, at the end of the play he was all dirty and sweaty hahaha

La obra estuvo a cargo del grupo de teatro italiano Instabili Vaganti (Caminantes inestables) y se llama "Made in Ilva" (Hecho en Ilva). Esta obra de teatro, que más bien es un monólogo, ya que sólo hay un actor en escena, es una representación bastante desesperante, deprimente y cruda de la industrialización y de cómo el trabajo monótono y rutinario de un obrero en una fábrica lo va transformando en una simple máquina y lo va deshumanizando de tal manera que incluso se olvida de su propia identidad.

The play was performed by the Italian theater group Instabili Vaganti (Unstable Walkers) and is called "Made in Ilva." This play, which is more of a monologue, since there is only one actor on stage, is a quite desperate, depressing and crude representation of industrialization and how the monotonous and routine work of a factory workeman transforms him into a simple machine and dehumanizes him in such a way that he even forgets his own identity.

A pesar de que no empezó puntualmente fue interesante volver a ver una obra de teatro, tenía tiempo sin hacerlo. Es agradable poder tener estos espacios bien bonitos y acondicionados para disfrutar del arte y la cultura y ojalá que las autoridades encargadas de su mantenimiento y preservación, o sea, la alcaldía de La Victoria, trabajen para que se mantengan así.

Even though it didn't start on time, it was interesting to see a play again, I hadn't done it for a while. It's nice to be able to have these beautiful and conditioned spaces to enjoy art and culture and I hope that the authorities in charge of their maintenance and preservation, that is, the mayor's office of La Victoria, work to keep them that way.
